The two guys who make all the difference to a successful MAP Meet. Aegis, who as the site owner gives the Meet MODs a free hand to organise the day as they like. Also as the finance guy he (MAP) covers the cost of the hall hire, which in this case ran into several hundred pounds. This means all money raised goes to the chosen charity. We also have Smurf, who keeps the fun and energy up, even when during the last sessions people are flagging. You do really need to attend the 2016 Meet and shake his hand.
I've stitched some pictures together of a nice sequence from Unreal Combat and Ruth. I love the nonchalant way he walks away after dumping Ruth on the ground.
Lucy was really good actually. We did some drills slipping the jab and throwing counters to the body. I threw some pretty good jabs and Lucy moved away nicely.
The final figure raised was £1,110.00, which is 111% of our target figure. That's a fantastic amount; so on behalf of the MOD and Admin Team thank you so much to those who donated, came and trained, taught a session and generally made the day something to remember. You are all without exception awesome. Aegis told me on the day he thought that MAP had probably raised a 5 figure sum for charity over the years and we'll keep going. One of my memories is Olympian Ian Rose humbly asking me if Mushroom would mind if he joined in his session. Then Mushroom's face when I told him who he'd be training. As with all other instructors on the day though Ian went from coach to beginner student without any thought of his status, We had some new faces teaching this year. Mushroom, Southpaw535, Janno and Unreal Combat and I'm sure you'll agree they all made an impact. So thank you and I'm sure we'll do it all again.
Great stuff. Annoyed I didn't make the last one. Also just seen in the latest copy of the Judo magazine "matside" that Ian Rose has recently been graded to 6th Dan and another great older guy that's been at the meets, Bill Nobbs, has been graded to 5th Dan.
Great news. For those not at the 2014 Meet, Bill Nobbs taught a Judo session alongside Ian Rose. I believe Bill has retired from teaching.
I've just been going though the 2015 MAP Meet pictures and there was some real good work done be all attendees. Aegis, knowing how to breakfall.
