Hello I am moving to England from the US to pursue a Master's degree in London. I will be based in Birmingham and I am looking to continue my training in Hakko Ryu jujutsu. Does anyone know of dojos or instructors in the Birmingham or London areas? Thank you.
Have you already checked the Hakko-ryu website? http://hakkoryu.com/organization/organization-outside-of-japan/ http://hakkoryu.com/organization/shihan-list/
With whom did you study in the U.S.? I can put you in touch with the Hakkoryu representative for Europe, at the least there may be a study group near your new location though there's not a Shihan there presently. Feel free to select "Secretary" from the pull down menu here http://hakkoryu.com/contact/ and send me more details; I'd be glad to help. Devon Smith
Sorry, don't know of any Hakko Ryu, but the following may be of interest? http://hontaiyoshinryu.co.uk Depends where in London you are though?
Im a little late in this. I havent been here for a while. You could try looking for Dentokan Jujutsu its basically Hakko Ryu. Follows all the same waza set.
Their used to be a very strong Dentokan group in Ipswich, I trained with them a few times in the mid 2000s when they used to come down to London. There instructor was a chap with a Polish sounding name. Jerry Hobbs was based in Suffolk in the mid 1980s. I also think he graded people in Kokamishin Ryu. A while ago someone mentioned in passing to me that their was a Dentokan club just south of Oxford but you would need a car to get their. Hope that helps.
I don't know of any Hakko Ryu, but I noticed on one of the sites which CMM provided links to that Daito Ryu features in the lineage of the founder of HR. Quentin Ball teaches Daito Ryu in Gloucester. Depending on which part of Birmingham you are in that might be accessible to you. http://www.hakuho.co.uk/hakuho-uk.htm
Hi Hi I trained hakkoryu, but I moved to London for work 6 months ago. But I still missed for training. I live in north east London and I invite every training which I can. Phone number removed. Sorry, but MAP doesn't allow personal contact details.
There is no official Hakko ryu in the UK. Most Hakko ryu outside Japan is of groups that no longer have contact with the hombu. There is a an aikido teacher just outside Birmingham, Mick Sheridan, who also teaches Hakko ryu. PM me if you can't locate contact details for him.
