I came across this site a while back, but got skeered after gazing upon the intensely serious visage of this most noble clan's founder....who, back in high school, undoubtedly got voted "most likely to end up pumping gas and using the photo booth at the mall to render himself wearing a pair of toy Wolverine claws."

Is it me or does that site look like it's been lifted from a console RPG manual?

I thought this was a joke at first; however I do believe they are serious.

A quick look at :google: , shows this gentleman is apparently in the film business and the following is from his bio http://www.serpentrisingmovie.com/bio_Mark.html :

"Mark Grove's background includes intense training in the Japanese art of Ninjutsu. At age 17 he opened his first training facility, and has since taught thousands of students. In an art with a primary doctrine of adaptability, but with little outlet for 'recreational application', Mark sought out a new avenue to use his skills."

There seems to be past postings on MAP too...I guess I don't get out much because I haven't heard of him before.

Yeah Mark Grove and his group have been around for a while. From what I've heard in banter on the internet, they have the whole thing set up as a "Ninja clan" with all the trimmings. They had him on the history channel at least once.

    I particularly like this:

"The Kurai Kotori Tradition is a huge system that has over 30 Primary Arts that house more than 150 Sub-Arts, making it one of the most in-depth styles available throughout the world.

Lastly, this article from their website discussing their uniform and explaining how to "to don the shroud" says it all:

Well I think it's considerate of them to don the shroud-that way their friends don't have to wrap them in it for the "final journey".

Isn't Mark Grove the guy that had a DVD about the Ninja-To?

I remember some guy trying to hawk me a copy few years back, can't remember the name of it right now.

    edit:

You know what :google: really is your friend:

The sad thing is that he actually looks like he has the physical attributes to be a decent martial artist if he focused his attention on learning.

95% of the Bujinkan/Genbukan/Jinenkan/etc... couldn't put together a dynamic choreographed demo that looked as sharp as the piece at the end of that vid.

    Shame really.

It could be argued that 95% of the people in said organizations couldn't put together a dynamic choreographed demo that looked as sharp as the piece at the end of that video because that's not what the training is ostensibly meant to enable in the practitioner.

It's a shame that I can happily live with.
