From another board,... For those who are into Jun Du Hong's distinctive brand of action choreography [as seen in Fighter in the Wind, Arahan, No Blood No Tears], the region 3 edition of City of Violence (starring the man himself) is due out today. ... Rock n'Roll!!!!!
So Far I've seen Half of City of Violence... while it doesn't quite knock my socks off, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes stories like the original Point Blank with Lee Marvin, Payback, the Mel Gibson remake, or Get Carter with Michael Caine (or the Sylvester Stallone remake)- cept that C of V is loaded with streetfights, kicks and throws, instead of guns. ... and particularly for anyone here who has studied tae kwon do, hwarang-do, hapkido or tang soo do. Jun Du Hong is great to watch in motion.
It's fun... here is Derek Elley's short, to the point, June 2006 review for Variety, posted this Spring after the film was screened at this years Cannes Film Festival. http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=fe...80&cs=1&s=h&p=0 ... I'm enjoying it... though I haven't quite gotten to the epic finale yet.... hopefully this weekend. I didn't like Arahan at first (I thought it dragged a bit in the middle), but gradually came to really like it. review: http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/000027.html DVD: http://www.cine-east.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1026 I also recommend the directors more recent film Crying Fist. http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/003233.html http://dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=58235 DVD http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.534187/qx/details.htm
Oh, I almost forgot…. No Blood No Tears Review - http://www.kfccinema.com/reviews/action/noblood/noblood.html DVD - http://www.amazon.com/No-Blood-Tears/dp/B000929VBS (Region 1) http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/13561.html (region 3)
I will second Crying Fist as a good film. Nice story line in the film. One of the better boxing films out there as of late.
Crying Fist is def. the directors best drama so far - I think Arahan was his best comedy to date. No Blood No Tears was the one with the most inventive cinematography.
