hey, I was wondering do you think that you would be able to compete in kick boxing if you used the kickboxing elements of JKD? (sorry if this seems a stupid or obvious question)
It's not a stupid question at all. I don't see why not. You'll find plenty of JKD teachers with at least some grounding in muay thai, shooto, savate, boxing, etc. Sparring, equipment training, and conditioning are all prominent parts of JKD's ideology (and hopefully practice as well). So why not?
Theoretically JKD will take all elements of any style and blend them to fit the rules of KickBoxing (I assume you mean the Official Sport.) and come up with a superior JDK KickBoxing Style. That is the essence of JDK. On a practical level, people will do what appeals to them. ie. There is NO ONE JDK KickBoxing Style! On the field the best style combined with the best man will win, all other things being equal. ... and I hate to say this being a male, but "Don't you get it?"
