As far as were all aware, it's not a rumour... it's been featured on a fair few legit mma news websites. Naturally, the chances of it going ahead are slim; but on the less, Van Damme says he wants to fight in K1.
HE WILL WIN! HE TRAINED WITH SENZO TANAKA AND CAN USE HIS DIM MAK!!!! But in all seriosness, just how much of his little experience does he HAVE with full contact fighting, other than sparring sessions? Anyoneknow?
LOADS!! Have you not seen the film "kickboxer"? This is never going to happen. It's just publicity for both the company and the celebrity.
I'm sure K1 would accept him no questions asked. Simply it would help promote K1, and make a name for itself to those who've never heard of it.

well they can spin it either way. "superstar martial artist gets creamed by k-1 fighters" "superstar martial artist takes on worlds best" win or lose it equals huge publicity for k-1.
It's a win win prospect for both sides. Its just that Van Damme will have to get in the ring for it to pay off. He will have to take his whipping like a man. If he says he will do and K1 says he's gonna do it he will have to or face being called out as a fraud (again), and I don't think anybody's rep can handle something like that.
Yeh I suppose they do. Would be funny seeing Van Damme going in then standing there like 'wtf...I got hit...i got HIT! It hurts...'
From a documentary I watched of Van Damme a very long time ago; it said he studied for a while Kickboxing. I can't recall it making any mention of Karate?
I always wondered why most of his films have been marketed as kickboxing flicks when he himself trained in Karate. Maybe he's done both. That biography does say that he was a "Karate Champion". Champion of what? I don't know but good on him anyway.
