Japanese and Korean swordsmanship: compare and contrast

    Is this not just a Japanese school being practiced by koreans though?

    Nope. These are Korean BEOP (methods) being practiced through BON (drills) between two people.

    I wonder if others could even name the ryu (or multiple).

    I imagine the Japanese have similar movements and probably have a tidy curriculum associated with a particular approach. Nothing wrong with that.

    Confused.

    Edit: hang on there are huge flaws here too. At around 1 min the defender cuts to the hands, and with no defense cuts to the neck. What if the cut to hands missed? What if the hands were armoured?

    Why no affecting the opponents balance?

    More confused.

    Don't be. The approach is different and maybe not to everybody's taste. Personally I find Japanese sword over-engineered and much too banal for my tastes but then I don't have to concern myself with it, do I ? FWIW.
