Not calling Aikido a "bad art" per se....but very often trained poorly and completely misrepresented by its followers.

Sorry I don't think Aikido provides very good lessons in "overcoming fear", unless you mean overcoming the fear of watching Steven Seagal's acting.

I feel bad for even putting Aikido next to YB, Kyoshu jitsu, and "Grandmaster" Thomas Daw...but it is what it is.

I promised myself I wouldn't start posting the names, but why not, it's relevant to the thread.

Like I said in my first post, clearly some arts are more martial and useful self expression than others.

And some arts are such garbage they will delude you and your entire worldview, while you happily hand over your cash.

 

Because there's more to life than grammar,there's spelling,and punctuation!

Plus they've been doing amazing things with tungsten carbide drills.

When his opponent holds on his clothes with both hands, if he tries to punch at his opponent's face, all his opponent needs to do is just give him a quick "shaking", his punching power will be cancelled before he even has time to generate it. For example, if you want to punch your right fist at my face, I can use my left hand to push your right upper body backward. In order for your right hand to punch me, you will need to send your right shoulder forward. If I push your right shoulder backward, how will you be able to use your right hand to punch at my face? This will also apply to kicking. If you try to kick me, I can just give you a downward pulling to force your weight to be on your kicking leg. Your leg won't even have chance to lift up.

This is a common misunderstanding about the nature of the "clinching". During "clinching", the punching and kicking will not be effective just because the "shaking". The "shaking" will prevent your striking power from generated in the early stage.

My wife has informed me that martial art is NOT useless. She is of the opinion that it's very handy if you've a bad spot in the paint on the wall and don't want to go to the bother of fixing it.
