    very cool. thanks.

my school also tries to stress a solid standup game. we have a judo instructor and a wrestling coach that come in once a week to teach standup.

    hello all,
I've decided to cross train in BJJ... I know a guy who has trained in BJJ for a few years and has offered to teach me the basics. not being familiar with Brazilian JiuJitsu, its curricullum or its rank structure, i have a question. Given that he has the proper training himself, what belt/rank or experience would he need to possess before being able to convey applicable knowledge to someone with little to no groundfighting experience?

Hey guys, So tonight was my first official class of BJJ, I enjoyed it a lot and plan on going again tomorrow. Basically what I worked on was going from guard to mount, and also a reversal to get out of mount when in mount bottom. I was given a lot of good pointers on what to work on and one thing I noticed myself is my flexibility is just down right horrible. I can already tell my body will be sore tomorrow, but a good sore. All and all tonight was just an awesome experience, and my first step in which will be an awesome journey in the world of BJJ.

    Hi everyone!

I'm Natalie. I'm 27 and live in Belfast. BJJ white belt: been training for about 9 months. I'm loving it and only wish I'd discovered it sooner! I'm out of action at present due to injury but hoping to get back on the mats as soon as I'm better and the docs give their consent.

I'm 5'2'' and 50 kilo and therefore the smallest in our club. Consequently, I spend a lot of rolling time getting sat on!

Thanks, Fusen! I've seen a few of Emily Kwok's videos, particularly the ones she's done with Stephan Kesting. Kesting has posted some fantastic videos aimed primarily at those facing bigger stronger opponents. I also enjoy watching grapplers of smaller build (such as Marcelo Garcia) compete with larger opponents.

A training partner of mine just just come back from Marcelos (emily kwok's teacher), he's been teaching me all the warm up drills they do for open guard, killer material!

Hello all, I am new here and wanted to say hi. I have been reading this forum and other's like it for a while so I thought I would join so I could give my opinions on the styles I love. I studied Aiki-jujits for a while (4 years) prior to moving back to the states from Japan, years ago. I now study GJJ and Judo and find it allot more practical. I only have been training in those arts for a year and a half.

Well after alluding to it in other threads I had my first proper BJJ class at a local club (despite dropping around the BJJ forums frequently anyway hehe).

I sucked both more and less than I thought I would. I'm starting with a casual membership and see how that goes first.

Everyone is real nice and as a result I probably chatted and asked question a bit more than I should have rather than just nutting down and drilling. Had a few funny moments too.

Been doing BJJ off and on for almost 10 years. Trained under Jorge Gurgel here in Ohio. Still grapple with some blue-belts. I am a black belt in Seikan karate. Oh yea, also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Thus, the name.
