This is a doozy of a video, so many claims too, MP can teach the blind (it doesn't say partially blind either) to ride motorbikes, but only at a fifty percent success rate!

See that no-deletion policy is something I don't really agree with :/ someones circumstances could change or they might reveal something they perhaps shouldn't have....

I'm sure the mods would be understanding in such circumstances and allow a deletion.
However...getting an unfavourable reception because you're posting (nonsense) and trying to promote yourself without people looking into it too much? That needs to stay visible.

The general rule is profiles don't get deleted.

Why should MAP have a series of gaps in threads, or entire threads disappear because someone doesn't like the replies they get, or because they said something foolish?

Although MAP is free to join it isn't just a handy place where people can choose their own rules.

It takes a lot of time and money behind the scenes to keep this place running.

For example we are a registered business and our tax returns are due.

We need to sort out the Paypal account and update the supporting membership and make sure the money received goes into the new bank account Mitch and I set up.

Saz is currently working on a mock up of the site with some add ons. We'll then be able to decide which add ons are the most beneficial before importing them onto this site.

Saz like the rest of the MOD team is doing this in her own time.

We currently have 11 discussion ongoing in the MOD Forum and they'll not be closed until we are happy as a group with our decisions.

The MAP Meet next year is still being worked on and I need to create a design for the t-shirts, take it to the printers (2 hour drive each way), get costs and so on.

Charities need to be contacted for promotional purposes.

    And it goes on.

So no, you can't decide to delete your profile because you are upset and not being believed.

All that said each request is dealt with by the MOD team and each reason taken into consideration.

When Koyo and Moi passed away we were in contact with their families and let them chose how they wanted things handled.

I am going to add a little to what Simon said.

99% of the time, people want their profile and/ or posts deleted because they don't get the response they want. So they want to pick up their toys and go home. Like Simon said, why should the flow of MAP discussions get disrupted? And when (not calling anyone out- just generally speaking) some person is promoting their fraudulent MA, and gets their art/ product shown as the fraud it is, why should we not let that be there as a warning for future people to see? If your art can't stand up to scrutiny and questions, don't post promoting it. And, again, you don't get to just delete it/ yourself when it doesn't go your way.

The nature of the Internet is that it is forever. That is the way it is. It amazes me that anyone doesn't know this when they post anywhere. I certainly think of that whenever I hit the send button anywhere on the Internet. Everyone should have that in mind posting anywhere. Think before hitting the post reply/ send button. Think before joining any forum or group. It's that easy.

That said, there are special circumstances where exceptions can be made on rare occasion. That is why we have a team to look over things. People may or may not remember we deleted some posts because the parent referenced their child's experiences in them. The parent thought better of it and the mod team decided that information about a child's experiences should be deleted to protect the child. It wasn't a deletion of an account, but it was a deletion of posts . But we would have done whatever we needed to to protect the child's information being out there. This was all referenced publicly on here before, and the message about the deletion is still on here, so that is why I feel I can mention it. (Anyone who remembers, lets not get into specifics though ok?)

I will also share that I once made a stupid post where I didn't realize what I said revealed my real name easily. Several fellow MAPpers pointed it out to me via PM. I asked the MOD team to let me delete the personally revealing information and they decided to let me. They understood I made a dumb error and let me fix it.

And these are perfect examples of when we do have a compelling reason to make an exception. But it needs to be a compelling reason like that for us to interrupt the flow of a discussion on MAP.

I'm not going to argue, as I agree with that.

With that being said though: I do can understand when some people think the better of it.
Not due to being sulky as it's the case here, but I was myself in the situation where I posted something about me myself, that I shouldn't have done.
Nut because the heat of the discussion and the attitude regarding the topic.

Did it here several times too, actually.
But since I posted here too often about my... situation, I sort of decided it was too much already anyway, so I try to make the best out of it.
But if I were to chose a second time, I seriously don't know, if I were to be so open about my situation again.

Why do I mention that: Just because I can imagine several things that bring someone to post something without rethinking it enough.
Was that the case here? I seriously doubt it.
I think it was more of trying to let MP seem be legit and that didn't working out; with people actually thinking too much about it, so that the arguments were lost.

I think you being open and honest on MAP has led to nothing but friendships and respect. At the very least least I sincerely hope it has caused you no problems.

    Very much this.

I am a vociferous proponent of the policy of not deleting user's posts. I may be wrong and am happy to have that discussion, perhaps better done in another thread, but my basic premise is that a discussion board made of user content has to view that content as sacrosanct. There are boards where content is deleted all the time because the mods don't like it. But in that situation a board really becomes the circle jerk that some people who dislike MAP or other boards accuse them of being.

    We don't do that.

In some ways I would like everyone to see the steps the Mod team goes through regarding every issue. Rest assured, we take it as seriously and with as much consideration as we can. Honestly, it would be much easier if we pulled the trigger earlier on some posters, or were less caring of user content. Policing a place when you control its history is much easier.

But that's not what we're trying to be here, we're trying to be a place where everyone gets a fair go, can make their case, only gets banned for truly stupid behaviour, and has to stand by what they say. That last bit is really important.

We've made some mistakes, some which I would undo in a heartbeat if this site was my plaything, some of which happened because as a mod team of part-timers all over the world it takes us time to respond to major issues .

But we've made those mistakes for the right reasons, even if the result wasn't what I wanted. Ask any Mod and I would hope they would tell you the same.

    No, no problem at all!
At least none that I know of.
And I certainly didn't mean to hint in that direction.
As far as I can tell, everyone here was very supportive even.

So your busy, wow who isn't, stop whining.

Sorry but I have to say this, you can be informative towards someone that asks if his account can be deleted or you can (personal attack deleted).

Mod note: Ok, that is two times people have resorted to personal attacks in this thread now. Personal attacks are NOT allowed. Make your points by sticking to the topic, not getting personal with name calling and other personal slights. Future attacks may very well result in bans being issued. I think we all would prefer it not get to that point.

Tell that to your witch hunter Simon......who makes a personal crusade out of everything here.

Look I don't like Merpati Puti in any way. I don't believe them or their practices, but contacting organisations they work with, to warn them etc. goes way beyond normal sanity.

I'm just saying I think it's wrong to keep data on a public forum if someone requests otherwise. I don't think this is a stance I'm willing to change. Although I do completely understand that it's awkward for content providers such as yourselves and it is 90% of the time because some one started something and didn't get the response they hoped for.

I knew this when I signed up. I'm not complaining just stating my opinion.

Thank you for the article, very interesting read. Although youreally shouldn't call people names for disagreeing with you.

Is this law in effect now or is it still up for debate in the House of Commons?

Maybe if you read this whole topic and look at the responses, then you will see why I called him that. His responses are going overboard. Contacting organisations that MP deals with haha.....voicing his concerns, who gives a crap about his concerns?

Point being, he makes a witch hunt out of everything.

It's not reached the commons yet.

It was started in the House of Lords. You can see the progress of the bill here: Data Protection Bill [HL] 2017-19 — UK Parliament

Whoever wrote that Trusted Reviews article doesn't know what they're talking about, or how a bill becomes an act.

As it is, when you post on MAP you are essentially handing over your publishing rights for anything you post. It doesn't belong to you, and MAP can use your content in any way they like.

The MP guy is charging people thousands of dollars and delivering them absolutely nothing. I would want to be aware of that before I communicated with hem and if someone brought it my attention sooner then all the better. I agree with Simon on this.
