Ok good for you training BJJ and Judo. I respect those styles, not fully my cup of tea, but i respect them. So you have no actual experience in Silat? I understand your Bullshido detector is set to high, and yes there is a lot of BS, i agree. However sometimes it can help to look outside of the box. Some Silat is actually legit and you might learn a thing or two.

The amount of money is indeed insane, if this is the case than i would never go there (i wouldnt go either way). No person should pay so much for whatever style they train.
I didn't read all 23 pages so didn't read the point you made about the first page. Still i do believe people can train their senses in a way to sharpen them and for some part take over the visual sense. The story about the boy using echo-location is one example of it. Can you make a blind guy see? No not in the normal context.

Some people however want to be fooled, i experienced it from up close. Can i change that? Dont' think so. It will always be there, exactly because of this 'superman-syndrome'. Some people are easily convinced and want to follow a guru. For whatever reason, either they wise up, or will keep on following the guru. Smart people will find out by themselves.

You should really read the quote from page one, this is literally what the thread is about, and involves an actual scientific test, on a twenty year student of said art, with statistical analysis of the results.

I've trained a lot of arts since I started MA, although I havn't trained silat, I have a small understanding of physics, and stage magic so it can see obvious bullshido easily, plus critical thinking means I know I don't have to of trained the same art, to know something physically impossible, is physically Impossible.

Plus I've trained a little kali, which is virtually the same as silat ;)

Blind people want to be able to see, to offer that, and then not provide it, is morally wrong, claiming only dumb people will fall for it more them once is a very very poor excuse.

That's actually worse then I thought!

At the end they claim the indo special forces use this instead of night vision goggles.

Especially when they are trying to take money from charities for the blind, that people donate money to in good faith.

that's a weird video David, still they take great effort in trying to prove their stuff actually works, so would be interesting to see some more tests conducted with sceptics of the style. Should be easy since it's a big style in Indonesia i believe. So Monchu would be cool to provide some more examples of demo's working on sceptics.

    And Google proves otherwise

By what process do you think that could possibly physically work?

It's already been disproved, they're unlikely to try their hand at winning the money again.

They don't take "great effort" to prove their stuff actually works. Quite the opposite. That's like saying that David Blaine takes great effort in trying to prove that magic is real.

They have, to my knowledge, partaken in one independent trial, in which they failed miserably. They only have weak excuses for why this happened.

Who here said that Silat as a whole is scam?
    I saw no one, really.

What I saw, and agree with, is that MPs little tricks are just said to be that: Tricks.
They are fooling people; people, who want -for example- a chance of seeing and who might have faith of it being possible.
    And that gets abused.
    And that is just disgusting.

Well, it's pretty much up to the person and if (s)he can and want to afford it.

Maybe you should at least skim them.

Or maybe they really want to be able so see and believe nearly everything for it.
Might be naive, okay, but it's not a reason to use these people.

And calling people stupid sort of borders on being... rude.

They already have proven, that they can't do that.
And seem very adamant, that this doesn't proof anything, because there is nothing to proof.
    So to speak.

EDIT: Btw, Dead_Pool, I get kitty videos. You might want to rethink what you look at youtube :p

The Merpati Putih (MP) hoax story begun in 2000.

MP USA and Yayasan Saring Hadi Poernomo (YSHP) Indonesia (in short MPVV) accepted the challenge from James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF). YSHP is a foundation of Merpati Putih founder's family from the old kingdom who keep the ownership of MP knowledge. It is a separated entity from MP Indonesia (managed by Grand Masters and Masters) as the main organisation to manage all MP Martial Arts schools in Indonesia.

The JREF foundation is a trusted group, supported by scientists; the aim is to challenge all paranormal, supernatural, and pseudoscientific claims and offered 1m dollar prized. No one ever won that challenge until they closed that challenge program in 2015.

I was not involved in that program, I read everything from and from another site where we can read the test process, and all details included email conversations between MP USA and Randi's team. The result to detect colours was failed.

In a website of MP site, (the site is down now) there was a program that offered three sessions for vibra vision program, two sessions in US for $30k each and a final session in Indonesia for $50k. In total $110k, yes it was a lot of money for someone who wants to do that. From MP official side at that time, the failed test reason was the alcohol used to put the blind fold distracted the eyes.

That's all the fact. I'm a sceptic person and a non-believer as well, that's why I understand most opinions here or sceptics out there, about selling lies, con, just for money etc. I also not a believer in supernatural, paranormal etc. I know it does exist, but it is not something that gives the benefits of our daily life.

The current Merpati Putih YSHP foundation managed by young generation from the family, educated, open-minded and they are willing to learn from the previous mistake.

The first step is, created programs which are not martial arts school, based on MP breathing methods for the public, such as health and fitness and a course for the blinds. So everybody can learn it and experience the inner-power result themselves. It is similar to Yoga introduced to the western world. Yoga is not Yoga's Hindu or Yoga India anymore.

The second step, internally in MP, we have to admit that MP breathing method is not scientifically proven yet. Therefore, we should avoid using any science term to explain that. The challenge here, the closest terms that can be used such as energy, electric, magnetic fields, inner-power or chi, that term is still arguably from the sceptic's point of view.

The third step, MP Indonesia promoted Silat Bebas (free styles silat) competiton to attract young generation to learn Pencak Silat. At the moment in Indonesia, MMA already famous for the young generation there. Not like in the developed country, since law enforcement in Indonesia is still low, the crime rates are high, street fighting can easily happen anywhere, it makes the young generation still attract to learn self-defence.

Breaking hard materials. Most of the martial arts also do this breaking. If you're martial arts student without inner-power, you can break a steel plate as long as it is not a flexible hard material such as iron or bamboo. I believe that all humans have inner-power built-in in their body, it is not an additional energy that came from somewhere. The different is, if you experience and can feel it, it does exist, if not the energy still there.

I'm Australian originated from Indonesia. My aim is not only to promote MP but Indonesian Pencak Silat in general. Pencak Silat is not popular yet in Australia, but at least there are some schools available such as Perisai Diri Silat (this is one of the biggest traditional silat in Indonesia), Tiger / Silat Harimau from Sumatra, Cimande from Sundanese culture. We have Australian Pencak Silat Federation as our main organisation here.

I understand a big gap between western culture and eastern culture to see martial arts. In eastern culture, the old martial arts knowledge is not for competition, it just a self-defence that you have to keep secret as your way of life. The problem is if we keep it secret, one day that old martial arts knowledge will be gone.

That's all information I can give to the community as it is in regards to the Merpati Putih hoax issue. It is not for excuses or defends from the issues, it is just from my personal opinion. I'm not on behalf of MP Indonesia.
