Our school has been planning to host a tournament, Regional Qualifier for USSSA, this weekend in Nashville. I wanted to compete but wasn't going to be able to because my job was sending me out of town over that weekend. But now because some guy who works for us in Vegas can't go to Chicago on Monday, I'm going to Chicago instead of Orlando, which means my flight's been changed to Monday instead of today. I just keep thinking about that damn butterfly in China flapping it's wings changing world events. I haven't been training as much as I should have for a competition, but on the other hand I'm feeling good, I've dropped 10 lbs over the last month and my stamina's up so I think I'll do ok.
I see that butterfly everyday.. I take a swipe at it and it flaps like crazy. No need to thank me though. Just get in there and kick some ass! Let us know how it goes!! Good luck and give 'em hell!
Well it's about time Kwang! Kick some butt and knock off that ring rust! I don't have a tournament but I have a promotion this Saturday as well. Our Grandmaster K.C. Chung and 4 of our Masters will be attending. This will be the first time in 4 yours our GM has attended a promotion! Big doin's! Get some good pics and do keep us up to date! Fight hard! Fight smart! Breeeeeaathe!
Well there definitely was some ring rust that needed to be busted loose. We started with forms, as is normal, and I took a second place. It was definitely not my best forms effort :bang: , and the guy that took the gold deserved it. I did manage to eke out a gold in sparring in my division in a sudden death overtime. That was a tough battle from the get go. I was down as many as 6 or 7 points, but managed to fight back. Pretty happy about that match. Also fought an exhibition tag-team match, me and another guy from our school versus our two sons! That was a blast. His boy is 14 and is as tall as I am, my boy is 19 and 6'7". They were going for it against us oldsters. In the end the youth won out, beating us 31 - 30. Personally I think that us old guy should have had a 5 point handicap, which means really we won by 4 points!! Oh well, it was a great tourney, everybody seemed to enjoy their day, and there were a lot of great fights from adults all the way down to the tigers. Thanks to everybody who posted! I hope your promotion went well Narc!
Sounds like good fun. Jeez, your son is 6'7" - don't fancy having to get past his jab or kicks. Well done!
NICE Kwang! Good stuff coming from 6 points down to eek out a victory! Just shows that when sparring, you are never out of it. Hope you had a good time! My son and I both passed thank you! I'm Blue, my son is now Red!
Congrats, K.G.!!!! Have to say, tho: winning a gold, by ANY point spread, is NOT 'ekeing'!! Awesome job!
Yeah those long arms and legs are truly t3h d34dly!!1!! Thanks Ann and Narcy for the kind words. Trust me it was a win by the skin of my teeth. I was gassed! Lucky I had my son cheering me on and keeping me apprised of the score in the second round, I was able to fight back and force the Sudden Death round. And if I stay on this schedule I won't have to compete again until 2009! LOL.
