Not sure how much i CAN, but I do about 120. Could up that if I HAD too, but thats what Im comfortable with at the minute, which is up 20lbs on last week
I can squat around 70-80kg (154-176lb), I think I could squat a lot more. But any more than 154lb/80kg and my shoulders hurt lol. On a side note, anyone got any ideas for making it a bit more comfortable resting the bar on my shoulders ?
When I was training regularly I could do a squat of 500lbs for 2 reps, I would train like a powerlifter, low reps heavy weights, my main excercises we're squat (I LOVED IT!), Deadlift & Bench press, I trained 3 days a week. I trained hard for about 5 years but once I started doing Judo about 6 years ago I stopped lifting. But syill have a soft spot for Powerlifting & Straongman events.
When I first started squatting I tried everything to stop the bar hurting but in the end I just went for it as it feels safer with nothing between you & the bar.
Hope you're talking about squats and not bench pressing.... easy way is just wrap your towel around it. I know there is some specialised equipment you can get too but if it's just a 'bar bell in the garage' type operation a towel is easy.
Dave, you can always wrap a towel around the bar or at some gyms they'll have a foam pad. But my advice--just get used to it.
Opps, my bad lol. I was reading "Westside For Skinny People" and I had the word "bench" stuck in my head. Yes I was on about squats
Try squatting with the bar lower down on the back. Are you referring to your shoulders or your traps? The bar should rest on the traps and there is a sweet spot that evolution has allowed for barbell squatting check out Dave Tates' articles on squatting from T-Mag for a much better description Ken
I think my max was a tad over 200lbs at about 155-165lbs. I was never training too consistently because of uni, life, injuries and quitting the over-priced gym etc. which is why it is pretty lame. Hopefully if my friend gets a rack in his garage I will be back squatting like a maniac
I squat 95 kg, which i'am reliably told is 209 lbs. Only got good at this when i injured my knee as was told to squat everytime i hit the gym.
I usually go with about 295. Used to be higher when I was in high school, but someday I'll get back there.
I squat a lot less than my maximum, but I prefer to do 15-20 reps properly than a one half way down 130-250lbs
LOL that reminds me of these two guys I saw at the gym.. They were doing 225lb 1/4 squats (just barely if that ). They looked at me strangly as I did my box squats and ass to grass squats.
