How long did you train before you got to hopped in the ring?
Almost two years I think. That was MMA though. Still didn't feel ready.
Your training MMA? Many people hit sub grappling comps and striking interclubs first to build up experience.
Yeah I'm focused on Muay Thai right now but I'm adding in BJJ soon. I really want to do an interclub match.
For MMA about a year, year and a half but I pretty much did one straight off of bjj training. Was doing mma a couple months when it was offered.
If you're interested in just doing an interclub, then I would say just do one. They're a great experience builder and if its half decent they'll account for experience. If you've been sparring for a couple months I wouldn't hesitate to say go for one.
About 3 years in judo, they had competitions I could attend regularly, but i was young and lazy at the time (14).
In kungfu I think it was 3-4 months before entering the national championships, a lighter contact version of Sanda, ( same rules, just not full contact) Despite my teachers telling me it wasn't a good idea with that little experience, I still pushed for it.
Unsurprisingly I lost my first fight, but still came home with a medal (and a collection of bruises) as my weight category had so few competitors.
Training Sanda I had about 7 months before doing a light con kickboxing comp and got battered, then 5 months after that I entered a Sanda competition, won 1, lost 1 (and lost another a year after after not training)
I feel you, I've got a silver hanging about that may as well just be a participation one!!
Oh I think about a year, but I always enjoyed putting in an absurdly hellish grind
I never competed in Muay Thai. Bad eyes, etc.
However I was in my first freestyle wrestling comp in about...ooh... 3 months
It was pretty much...
"Heres the rules, throw the guy, pin his shoulders. Any questions? Get in there"
Got set up with a personal trainer! Can't wait to get going!
8 mnth...depends on two things
2) your mental
Been at it with my trainer for a bit now. It’s been awesome! I’m hoping to do a fight by the end of the year depending on getting my weight down.
That's great to hear!
