Hitting Power?

What is in your opinion the best power generation method for hitting (method/system of striking)? On National Geographic was measured as the most powerful strike the boxers punch. Can any IMA strike compare to that strike?
I am interested for the opinions.

If one practices enough meditation and chi gung that a perfect fusion of energy and intention is formed, then learns to draw the spacious power of heaven down, and the solid presence of the core of the earth up, then mix them in the alchemical cauldron and direct them through the energy channels of the body, so that the openings and closings of the joints and cavities of the body create a perfectly synchronized wave of power that courses through a completely relaxed nervous system so the transfer of power is biomechanically perfect through every point of its course through the total psychophysiological organism, than yes, the internal stylist can generate power equal to the boxer's punch.

Now it could go without saying, but just for those who might not fully understand the esoteric training necessary to actualize the full potential of a fused mind, body and spirit: This process should be facilitated by spending hour after hour, day after day, year after year on every kind of punching drill, and all kinds of training equipment, including, but not limited to, bags, focus mitts and live training partners/opponents.

Boxers generate the most power (less to do with the power generation and more to do with the fact they spend alot of time working their hands). Nevertheless a strike from an internal art can have huge amounts of power from very close in, boxers need a little bit of space to generate momentum. Its harder to avoid a strike from close in since one has very little time to respond. Also the internal arts train strikes to areas which are very vulnerable.

Conclusion - Boxers can KO you
    - Internal artists strike can KO you

Boxers generate a mad amount of power, more than is needed to KO somebody, an internal artist generates a good amount of power, enough to KO you.

Therefore it is irrelevant, choose one and master it or choose both, learn them both and use either when most appropriate.

Internal martial arts have great power, but, the power is derived mostly from breaking an opponent's balance and then hitting them. IE: break the structure of the spine and then break the spine itself.
But punching power is not the only thing in IMA.

That is some push hands demonstrated by my teacher and his students.
Note that the power really sends the students flying all over the place.
That plus shuai, joint destruction, and punching will provide you with some really good power that can totally debilitate someone. :woo:

Boxer's punch is probably one of the most powerful strikes. This was also measured on National Geographic (Fight Science). Boxers use relaxation and tension so that can gain maximum speed and use all their weight behind a punch.
Also IMA fighter can generate strikes with huge amount of power ("enough to KO you"). It will be interesting to measure the "force" (punching power) between an Externam martial artist (like a boxer) and an Internal martial artist (like a Tai Chi master).

However (regardless the hitting power) the advantages of IMA fighters are speed (because of greather relaxation), anticipation of opponents movements (because of use of sensitivity), balance (no double weightness) and short hitting distance (because of better whole body motion). But if you get hit (properly) by the boxer's punch you are KO! :-(

The boxer did have the hardest hitting punch on fight science, but what they did not take into account was that he was about 3 stone heavier than all the other fighters.
Training helps and as a boxer he will have good technique, but there was no science used in that show. You cannot compare the strengths of different strikes and proclame boxing to be the greatest when you have such a weight difference.
Now what would be interesting would to get a group of people of similar size, weight and age, train them for a month or two in a certain style and then compare striking power.

I agree, weight counts. However if you want to be stronger you must put on weight! :)
No one on that show punched more powerfully that the boxer. Only that counts.

physics is physics - it's called kinetic linking ......using your leg and core muscles to throw a punch is where the power comes from ....try throwing punches with a damaged leg or hip - i'm just starting to get over a torn calf muscle , and hitting the bag has been very frustrating - no real power without the legs !!!

On the "Fight Science" was proved that the power of the boxer's punch (cross) come from his legs!!! Not only arms. The power "begins" in the rear leg, travel through the body (also with wais/body rotation) and goes out of the hand! Similar as in "internal martial arts".

The boxers way of hitting is to lift (more or less) the rear foot. In the (traditional) IMA is stated that it must remain fixed on the ground. Which way is in your opinion better for the hitting power (lift the rear foot/heel or keep the rear foot/heel on the ground)?
Is proved that the "traditional" way is more powerful? As I know the answer is no. Maybe contrary.

That is simply not true. According to my sources, Zhang Zhao Dong, Li Cun Yi, and Xue Dian all lifted their back heal during Pao, Heng, and various animals movements.
The change to flat feet was made after they died.
The lifting of the back heal is extremely important for speed and power.
However, its not exactly the same as in boxing.
Just thought I'd point that out to let people know that IMA is not strictly flat footed. :woo:

There was probably a reason why they "lifted their back heel"!
Many times is said by "traditional" masters that the rear heel must remain on the ground. But today almost all better MMA fighters lift ther rear heal when they do a cross punch. Probably the lifting of the back heel is essential for maximum speed and power. So why not lift the rear heel if is better for hitting power?

IMO its not that the Boxers way of generating power (E.g. The hips and legs driving the shoulder) is superior to the IMA's way (E.g. Fa Jing), but Boxers spend alot of time working on there punches, more than any other art. A professional throws thousands of punches a training session. This should be taken into account, if you work more at something than somebody else than you maywell be better than somebody else.

Kickboxers use the same punches but i bet they don't punch as hard as boxers.

She probaly just needs to get out more, maybe go see the san shou that's on every year at the British tc open. Or she can come and cheer me on at the European tc championships in Nov. There will be a bunch of tc folk wrstling hard. i'll be posting up some rulesets shortly - there is a "free moving step" which also included leg attacks, putting it on a par with judo and other wrestling styles.

People can't punch you when they are hitting the floor with their ass!

    * I punch like a train anyway.:woo:
