Hip pain with roundhouse/side/hook kicks

    Nah. Do boxing until the issue is taken care of. The worst that would happen is he comes back with great hands and conditioning.

    I also have to agree with this. See a sport doctor to see if they can identify the issue. It it's bursitis, give it a few weeks and you can kick again. If it's a structural issue with the hips, you may want to stay with boxing or low kicking styles. If it's tendinitis or another soft tissue injury affecting the joint, rest ice and recovery.
