This reminds me of the movie where Bill and Ted got money for plain tickets to fly around the country beating up the keyboard warriors that were flaming them online.

I hope the OP doesn't have a passport

I think theres an important distinction to be made here. If the guy IS terminally ill he very well have been on medication that made his emotions a little more wobbly than normal and booze may have compounded that. If he were NOT on meds and NOT ill and just decided for no reason at all to start blabbering away at someone then he deserves to have his friends corral him until the bouncers could escort him out for causing a disturbance. Given his situation though he quite possibly might not be ABLE to be held that accountable for his actions - namely running his mouth.

All this brings up a question for me though. What happened that CAUSED the guy to single out Lou and tell him to leave in the first place? Even if the guys on meds I find it really hard to believe that Lou (why do I think I remember him saying he was 20? Which begs the question why was he in a bar in the first place?) was simply minding his own business, not being loud, obnoxious or causing some sort of ruckus and suddenly the guy just goes off on him for no reason at all. It doesnt add up.

If Lou felt threatened he should have called to a bartender and asked that the gentleman be removed. Or he could have backed away. OR, if in fact he DID feel threatened (by a terminally ill individual) to the point of worrying for his physical safety then he could have taken up a defensive position, waited for the man to attempt to hit him, defended himself in the simplest manner possible and then waited to see what happened next.

It was summer back when I was bouncing. We had a line about a block long. Two guys who were already drunk got into it over something stupid but it was just pushing and the like. We threatened to toss 'em right then and there and these two cooled their heels quick. They got inside and were chill for a bit but once the liquor got to flowing, so too did the beer muscles and round about midnight they got to shovin again. Dude "A" was somewhat bigger and had long arms, always a problem in a brawl. He seemed more confident so I think he had SOME kind of training in something. Dude "B" was shorter, not as broad but he looked like he was in better shape. All things considered I called it even from my vantage point.

At any rate they got into it and dude "B", felt threatened enough to put his hands up. Dude "A" took his best shot at which point I lept off my speaker box and began to make my way through the crowd forming around them. After dude "A" swung I saw dude "B" side step a little, come over the top and clock him good in the right cheekbone. Just once and then he stepped back, gave "A" room. But the fight kind of drained out of "A" as when I got there all he was doing was holding his cheek and cursing at "B", lol. We ... "politely" asked "A" to leave making sure to introduce him to a few tables and chairs on the way out.

My point for all this is defense in scenarios where staff or security is around should be no more than applying the minimal amount of force in the most efficient manner possible and then reassessing the situtation. "B" did that. He made his point and showed "A" that he wasnt the easy target "A" assumed he was. It was all that he needed to do. He got to stay and finish his evening.

Lou could have done the very same thing. One strike, enough to show the guy that Lou was trained and capable of defending himself and then let the other guy decide if he wants to go for round two. If he engages Lou again, then Lou, by my definition, has done all he can to provide ooportunities for things to dissapate and can step up his efforts of defense.

    Try to walk away
    Try to talk away
    Display willingness to defend oneself
Return force in kind should any be offered
Always leave the attacker with the option to disengage but should he dismiss that,

STOMP HIM INTO A MUD PUDDLE.

No, no you don't. I reserve the right to talk smack to anyone I want without needing to fear a violent response from them. Is that naive? Yes, but that's irrelevant.

You're example is an exception. Them be fighting words and an pre-emptive attack after them would probably be self defence, if you could prove what was said.

We can argue for days on this subject... I will just show you what happened when one Serbian basketball player residing in US decided to beat up a guy just because he was dancing with his friends girlfriend and is now serving 25 month sentence in Serbia (he fled US). He also said that the guy was offensive to him and he was just standing up for himself... He also thought that he didn't do anything wrong and that he was just defending his pride (and probably wanted to look cool in front of his friends). In my opinion the sentence should have been 10 years...

PS: I did not post this to relate with what Lou did... What Lou had was just a small brawl that should not deserve anybodies attention... That sort of thing happens every day, I agree with that... We do not know what exactly happened and therefore should not be too quick to judge... Kuma, I really do not understand why are you devoting your spare time on this subject... We should all leave Lou to deal with his own emotional issues and not involve any higher instances... I posted this to show you that jumping on a guy for mouthing off is not an excuse and sometimes can destroy several lives!!! Fight should be the last resort...

Lou is 27! You consider that early in life? I had two kids at that age and was loooooong over fights...

No, what we know is that something happened.

Unfortunately Lou's attitude towards the whole thing has made it a bit awkward to get the details.

We don't really know what went on, mainly due to Lou gangsterin up his posts about it, which has done him no favours.

There are many ways he could of described what went on and why he took the course of action he did, the problem is he picked the one that makes him come across as an eejit.

Woah. As there appears to be a threat of police/legal action, I am going to lock this thread pending discussion with the mod team.

I apologise if this gets anyone's backs up, but I'll get back to you in due course.
