I recently graded to 4th Kyu - Purple and now have to learn 2 new kicks: a. Jodan (Face Height) Round House b. Jodan (Face Height) Spinning Back Round House. I am 40 something and ain't as flexible as I used to be. Anybody got any info, exercises, or any other help that will aid me. Thanks.
http://www.stadion.com/stretch.html The answer lies here my friend. Follow what is said in that book, and I would put money on you being able to do those kicks within a month or two, plus the splits just for a laugh!
Yup, when kicking high always bring your chamber as high as possible and try to aim at the target with the knee first before shooting out the kick. A low chamber + forcing to do a high kick with the rest of the lower leg leg = bye bye knees, when kicking in the air. Don't kick with full power. These are the only tips I can think of, your instrauctor will correct your technique often it's best to leave the learning from him, still got doubts? Ask away |Cain|
If you can't make a jodan kick, concentrate on getting your chudan kick a little higher each time. When your kicking, try and imagine the kick going higher each time. Sounds silly, but it does work. And stretch daily too
Have you used this book then? I've seen it advertised for years but have never got round to looking at it.
From a technical standpoint, I do high roundhouse kicks that start of like front kicks. Only at the time when I pivot my supporting foot does my kick finally look like a roundhouse.
this is something im having trouble with too. Kgirl, i will take your advice. might have to make a note to stretch everyday, ive got a memory like a seive
the less known muscles Gaskeall Train the side muscles of you body. They also help with getting side kicks up. Regards Kerling
While it sounds counter-productive, try bending your plant leg a little more when you kick high. This actually allows you to tilt your torso a bit more and get the foot higher. It is common to try to get more height by straightening the plant leg, but this raises your center of gravity (always a bad thing) and inhibits the tilting of your torso. Try it before you discard it .
Once again, thank you all for your help and advice. isolair - That is a top article. Just what I need. ______________ OUSS! to you all.
