    Hi there peoples!

My kung fu school is closing soon :( and i really want to continue my training.

I know there is no other LG school near me (nearest being in fordingbridge but i cant get home from there) so i have come to accept that i will likely have to start from scratch in a new style.

So does anyone know of a good school around the bournemouth/poole area?

I would preferably like to avoid Wing Chun, I dont dislike it, it has just never appealled to me thats all. So no disrespect to WG practioners out there.

Other than that im open to any other style of KF, just really need to find one!

    Can anyone help......PLEASE ? :(

    Thankyou !!!!

I know you said no Wing Chun, but this is quite different to most Wing Chun you will have seen. Just search for clips on Alan Orr on youtube to get an idea of some aspects of the system.

The system teaches body structure/body mechanics not the happy-slappy chi sau game that is generally seen.

Here is a local instructor in his association:

    Sai Jun Mak

    Contact Number: 07725 514 929
    Website: www.fullcircle-wingchun.co.uk
    Email: s.mak@christchurch.gov.uk

    Class times and location:
    Every Monday - 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm

    The Goat and Tricycle Pub
    27-29 West Hill Road
    The Triangle
    Bournemouth

Lessons are held in the training hall on the first floor above the pub.
You can have a relaxing drink downstairs after training.

Ah right. I got the info from Alan Orr's site, but Sai Jun Mak's site should be more up to date. I'd highly recommend giving it a go.

There's a 5 ancestors school, but they're the least web savvy people on the planet. Try the usual suspects (public info etc).

    Hi Sifu Ben...again :)

Do you know anything about this school as there is nothing on the website about classes, prices etc....? Also i emailed them, but they were rather elusive. They just kept saying i needed to come to call them to discuss my potential membership?

    Any thoughts.

    Sorry for the late reply.

Alan Tinnion was a direct disciple of Chee Kim Thong (Probably THE big name in Wuzhuquan), and is super tough. I've trained with his students in Swindon, and they've got good knowledge and skills, and place lots of emphasis on conditioning and resistance training.
They're ultra traditional, which is probably why they want to meet with you first. Just go along and see, it won't cost you anything and you may find something special.

Is sparring of interest to you?

I think thats it important to spar, so that you can practice the applications you learn in a 'combat' scenario. Admittedly, i totally suck at sparring. Its one of my weak points and something im aware of luckily.

    Pray tell why you ask?

If you couldn't find KF to suit your needs or wanted to work on your sparring game thought I'd point out you've got Gordon Fearn and Rebecca Riggs (the female instructor from Fightschool), 2 of the best TKD sparrers there have ever been on your doorstep.

    Crap website but great fighters.

    Well worth checking out!

Lee, you didn't contact Sai Jun Mak? They will do sparring, and conditioning comes with the training. My friends who train in the same org. come away black and blue after their training. Same for me when I've occasionally trained with them.

    Hi everyone!

    Ok multiple replies,

CFT: Had a look at youtube for Sai Jun Mak and found some videos of him and one of his students, it didnt overly appeal as it was...well it was boxing really. There was nothing else. No blocking, kicks or anything. So im going to give it a miss. Thankyou though, i really do appretiate the suggestion and the info you got for me!

ROB T: Thanks for the suggestion, but as i said im more looking for kung fu, I know a few people that to tkd, and there is little to no empahsise on blocking, deflecting or anything in fact that invloves hands, punches etc.... Again though thankyou for taking the time to suggest and post the link.

AXELB: I did indeed get your mail and have replied, now whilst i got the btw.....ygm means what now? ha ha ha.

Have a look at videos of Alan Orr on youtube. There are clips of his instructional DVDs that will be more representative of the material he teaches. It is your decision, but you are missing an opportunity to train good kung fu. You should at least give it a go instead of just forming an opinion via video. At the very least you know they spar, right?

There's a few more chi sau ones on there too.
