Hello all, While attending college (~ 10 years ago), I was hoping to find a Hapkido school, but there were none within biking/bus distance for students, so I took 2 years' worth of WTF TKD. After a while I felt that it wasn't quite what I was looking for, and so ended up taking about 18 months' worth of Serrada Eskrima, and about a year's worth of Capoeira Regional (there was some overlap in timing between them all), before landing myself a job in IT (working graves... and making it tough to go to any sort of classes). 8 years later, I got the itch really bad (and had been off of graveyards for a while), so I started looking around - and found a couple of Hapkido schools nearby. At the recommendation of more than a few folks on The Dojang Digest, I looked up Master Sean Bradley and started taking his [Sin Moo Hapkido] classes ( http://www.washingtonhapkido.com/ ) , which I've been attending enthusiastically for ~ 2 years now. Hello to you all, My name is Pierre Sundin and i live in Sweden. I run my own school in my spare time. I started Hapkido in 1993 under Master Chago Rodriguez and his Grand Master Kim Sung Kun. We study Sung Moo Kwan or old school KHF. GM Kim is a ex student of Doju Ji Han Jae, and he has started World Doowon Hapkido Federation. Since 2000 I also study Kuk Sool Hapkido under GM Lim Tae Hyung, but since 2006 I belong by myself to World Kido Federation under Supreme GM Seo. So I practice two styles of Hapkido one forfiling the other. I also train in Taekwondo and Haidong Gumdo, my nick is from the worriors of Haidong Gumdo. Hello all, My name is Frank Chartier, I am from southern Louisiana. I started hapkido in the mid 80's under Grand Master N.G. Guak. After he moved to Florida I continued TKD with Grandmaster Jun Kim(he did not teach hapkido), After Jun Kim moved to Florida, I stayed with one of the black belts Master Ferris, who was at that school before GM Guak, when Y.S. Kim started it. I was able to pick up sin moo hapkido again in the late 80s with master Ferris. In 1996 I had a falling out with master Ferris and went out on my own. I had a school on the New Orleans area but lost it with hurricane Katrina. I then moved to Shreveport, La. and now live in a small town near Baton Rouge. I have recently started A hapkido program in a Tang Soo Do school. I have been with a couple of orgs since I left master Ferris and now with hanminjok/world kido and the ISA and train under Master J.B. Murphy out of Dallas.
Hello. My name is Min Hyung Kooh. I was born in Seoul, Korea, but raised up in Mexico City, and now, a proud mexican citizen. I am a postgraduated doctor in Medicine, and attending physician specialized in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, living in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. I am also a attending professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, in Tijuana. I started studying martial arts, in Taekwondo (what korean hasn't ever done TKD?), in Mexico City, at the Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo under GM Sang Kwon Park. Later, I studied some northern style Nan chuang wu shu, olympic boxing, and kickboxing/muay thai. About a year and a half, I began studying Hapkido, with my teacher Master Roberto Proo at the Escuela Nacional de Hapkido, under the World Hapkido Federation (with the guidance of our Supreme Grand Master, Kwang Sik Myung). New to this forum Hello my name is Jamar and I have started Sangmukwan Hapkido the last week in August. It is very intense. As I have never trained in any martial art. My Kwanjangnim is 5th Dan, Youngsik Park. He is very good at teaching. His method is easy to understand and I learn very quickly. I just had a few questions for you experienced guys. Thank You Yes he sure is and his teachings are awesome. He speaks very little english and I am working on teaching him the basics. I usually train about 12-15 times a month for an hour each session. If you have any other advice on exercises and stretching that I could use at home as well as at home practice methods please let me know. kamsa hamnida!
Just Checking In I am a beginner in sangmukwan style hapkido and I have been loving it. The only problem I have is with my stretches in my legs. Is there anyway at home that I can improve on my "butterflys"? or better known as groin stretches. I want to be able to split but within time. I also want to improve my strength in my hands and forearms any suggestions?
