    Hi,

I know next to nothing about Kickboxing, so please pardon my ignorance :(

    How do you progress?

Do you have Belts/Grades and Gradings?

    Cheers. :)

    semphoon walk idiot, walk.

    Nope, you just train.

    No grades, just like boxing.

    What type of "Kickboxing?"

Most kickboxing and Thai boxing clubs these days DO have grades and either belts of arm bands etc.

I ask because I noticed in somebody's Sig that they have done Kickboxing for 8 years, have never Graded, but are a Kickboxing Instructor.

Just confused the hell out of me.

    Cheers. :)

If this hasn't always been the case, why was it introduced? I guess I'm just cynical, but I think its a way of making money for whomever.

In our club there are grades which are denoted by an armband. However our gradings are few and far between so I tend not to focus on when I`m getting my next band, more on how I can improve lesson to lesson.

I feel gradings are good in that they give you something to work for and show for your efforts but they should not be the reason you train.

    Absolutely!

For many clubs I've been involved with grades are no more than a regular 3 monthly revenue for the instructor etc etc...

I have gradings in my Kickboxing club, but in the 9-10 months I've been doing it, we only had one grading, which was recently. However, quite a large spread of skills is present across all the grades, ie some higher grades arent as good as others, or some lower grades show better technique, or whatever. I guess until around blackbelt level, as you say its a way of generating revenue, and showing how long people have been doing it for.

    That's the ideal I feel.

But I have never seen a kickboxing school here in the UK that doesn;t have grades.

my organisation do use belts but in kickboxing they are not as well reconised as in other martial arts. i find kickboxers tend to judje ppl on their sparring not the colour of their belt and all levels are taught the same things, in otherwords they are a waist of time just a way for the organisation to get money, although the black grade is very hard too achieve, alot harder than in most other martial arts.

dude its not belt or grade or gradings its usually sash (worn around the waist) or a band(worn aorunf the arm) ur instructor will let u know when ur better..if u go up against a guy and kicks the wind outta u in the first 30 seconds u need to in prove .the next u go up against the guy he knocks the wind outta u in 1 minute then u have improved..lol..truthfully though
