I found a video of the Ali/Inoki fight.

A boxer vs. a wrestler, with the "small" stipulation of no grappling. And the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time ends up being hospitalized by a guy who lies on his back and kicks him.
    Hilarious!

Okay. For your viewing pleasure, I've culled the Youtube archives for some boxing vs wrestling gems, including the Ali trilogy:

Here's the Matthew Saad Muhammad debacle from the 90's. The fight doesn't start until around the 8:00 minute mark, and ends in about 30 seconds.

Here's a clip on the Chuck Wepner vs Andre the Giant fight. Hilarious! Wepner, for trivia's sake, was the inspiration for Rocky. His gameness was never a question, if not the best fighter.

Here's the Ali "wrestling" collection. The first is actually realistic. The second is phony, but Howard Cosell's commentary is worth it. The last one is pretty funny. I think Ali was really dizzy!

And just because this one is so darned funny:

From 1934... neither guy really seems to know what he's doing.

Sorry. I copied the link from the wrong youtube window.
That's what I get for over-indulging in in martial arts videos... :p

anyone remember the first UFC? was that boxer any good?

Not really. I went about the same way as all the other early UFC fights.

Also, listen to that golden early UFC commentary. "It's like a muay thai kick, but a self defense kind of kick that a self defense person might use in a street attack." Brilliant, Superfoot, absolutely brilliant.

In short, yes, but not champion level. I believe he got paid an extra $25,000 or something up front to enter, none of the other competitors did.

And to the thread, yes the Gracie's where arrogant as hell. They also backed it up. In 1992 no one had heard of BJJ, now it's one of the more sought after styles.

Look back a little farther in time and you will find similar claims of superiority by practitioners of other styles as well.

Who, Art Jimmerman? That guy tapped out after being laid on a bit. No submissions were even applied on him. He had on one boxing glove. It was kind of lame.

Can anyone give any credence to the story that Frank Shamrock lied on his application to get into UFC 1?

Not sure, but I do know that they intentionally set Gracie and Shamrock across from each other on the bracket so that they would undoubtedly end up fighting each other in the finals. The Gracies knew what they were doing, and they knew that no fighter would stand a chance against them unless they had a ground game as well, and Shamrock really was the only one, and they knew it (despite how the ninja and pat smith claimed to have a grappling skillset, lol).

Do you mean Ken Shamrock or am I missing something?

Yup, but doesn't change the fact that he was a good boxer.

Lots of guys that where good at there respective arts got there butts handed to them without much of a fight.
