Kajukenbo Great Grandmaster Charles Gaylord passed away yesterday Aug 4th. He was one of the original kajukenbo teachers to leave Hawaii and come to California. His legacy is huge and he will be greatly missed.
I knew and respected GM Gaylord and am greatly saddened at his passing. My condolenses to his family, students, and the Kajukenbo community. He was a judge of mine in competition back in the early '80's and I got the chance to train with him as recently as two years ago at one of our "boot camps" where he was a guest instructor. I'm on my way back out to the Bay Area this afternoon for another boot camp and will likely see some of his students this weekend (f they are not busy with his funeral).
It truly is a great loss. Charlies school in Irvington was my 2nd stop in my early days in Kaju. Although my primary instructor was Greg Lagera, Charlie was my headmaster and I bow down to this great man who now is in a better place.
