So are you saying that some clubs do NOTHING BUT sparring?

Believe it or not, yes. I've run into a few people who actually bias everything around sparring completely. As if it were the end all, be all answer to the problems regarding the world of martial arts.

If you have a new set of tools, does one automatically attempt to build a house as soon as they can? Obviously not.
They need to learn how to use each tool and start off small. Eventually they can grow in skill and build that house. And even still, after several homes are under his/her belt, they're still refining techniques of using those aforementioned tools for years to come. In this way, they can build more effeciently, in less time and more expansively.

    That's the general idea.

Well, I can't say I've heard of any clubs who simply spar without even showing each other the techniques first, but I'll take your word for it.

Jester I elbow, therefore I am.

Actually the term for that is "Rough House" and people do it quite often here. Not my idea of a good time.

Firstly you need to learn the movements related to a technique once there off pat you can play with them in a controlled environment, this can be rolling or light sparing with someone experienced and it you can also begin to up the speed of things with drilling the technique.

Striking sparring from the get go is stupid as you have nothing to spar with.
