hi all! i'm new to this site. i was a practitioner of japanese martial arts until 1 day during my grading test, my opponent made a judo grapple and my elbow was swollen. then my parents forbade me to stop practicing martial arts. as far as my elbow is concerned, i went to the doctor and i felt assured that it became alright after 7 months.however the doctor warned me that i may end up in wheel chair because my backbone can be snapped during a fight.

apart from abstention from martial arts, can u guys tell me how can i prevent this?

It hasn't happened to me yet and I haven't been taking any specific precautions.

Train sensibly, in a sensible school with sensible partners - that would be my advice.

I'd ask to see the Doctor's diploma. How many patients would you wager he'd treated with MA related spinal injuries? My guess would be zero.
