I am a skinny runt (5'11" 65kg), but at our club we have several giants (6'6" 95kg+)

Thier favourite tactic seems to be rushing me, picking me up and falling over on top of me.

It was funny at first, but is getting a bit old now.

What tactics can you sugest for a smaller lighter guy fighting against a man mountain.

I will be seeing them on thursday and would like to scare the bejaysus out of them with some fine technique

    Thanks

    hip throw them?

more seriously, their center of graviy is higher up, so if you time it right you should have an easier time with hip-based throws, in theory.

/knows nothing about grappling so should be taken with a ton of salt

alternatively punch them in the face and claim it's traditional judo atemi.

Every one seems to be very good at countering hip throws, and my fitting in is way to slow

    Your mean
I hear what your saying and I have often relied on sacrifice throws in the past, but found I became a one trick pony, just using sacrifice throws and neglecting other types of throw. I have made a conciouse decision to not do sacrifice throws till my judo is better

hmmm. how are hip throws countered? analyzing that and seeing what you can use to counter THAT might be useful. and when they wise up to the counters you might be able to simply follow through on the hip throw depending on how they react.

    Drop shoulder throw.
65kg may not seem like much...until you attach it to a person's arm and then drop it balistically between their feet. :)

Can't say about judo terms but i've had success with arm drags, single legs and the occasional flying armbar.

Of course, if you nail the arm drag and get the back you need to prepare for a rousing bout of Big Guy Rodeo.

    Thanks guys

Are the old double bluff, you scallywag!!

We counter the hip throw thus...

As uke turns in to the throw, tori steps into a squat behind uke whilst grabing uke around the middle, belt line or lower.
Tori then straightens thier legs and falls backwards, perhaps lifting uke's leg with the knee. Bit like a suplex?

The trick to counter the counter is to go for a backwards throw (osoto gari FTW) as soo as you percieve the step around. They will be leaning back slightly ready for the throw.

I like it! They will be ready for drop shoulder, but I may surprise them with... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q5Hb2Zz9wo"]drop kata garuma[/ame]

I would'nt want them to land on me mid throw though...ouch

    YEE HA?

I'm a bit past it for flying armbarrs though I reckon

I can own them on the ground, as long as I'm not squashed flat in the take down

you have to use a modified kata guruma cos its now illegal.
tomo nagi (did i spell that right?) and if they pull back switch to an uchimata.
never tried it in gi but it works okay no-gi wise.

tai-o-toshi is also my favourite for bigger guys charging you.

I guess my main problem is that I am intimidated by thier size and dont like to get too close...I guess I should just do more judo and get better

Good shout on the not relying on sacrifice throws as it will inevitably stunt your judo in the long run. Other than that, more mat time and experience is the only thing that will really improve you.

You might wish to consider studying more grip fighting strategies as solid gripping is one way to effectively negate a strength advantage.

You may be onto something. My sensei screams 'DIE!!!!!', when he makes a throw, scares the bejaysus out of poor uke

Knee them in the balls when they land on you a couple times. Im 100% sure it will stop after the 2-3rd time
