Favorite Kicks Thai Style Round Kick It is one the most practical and powerful kick that can be used mulitple variations and is effective in almost every situation. Thai Style Switch Kick Because (if executed) it is a very deceptive kick that can be thrown with blinding speed and explosive power. Side Kick It is highly effective in neutralizing a rushing opponent (especially a taller one) and unlike the push kick, the side kick positions your head in a safer location when executed (with the right timing) against a taller fighter rushing with punches.
Love reverse turning kick - I seem to be fortunate to be able to execute it well (it's all in the hips) - love that whip of the head then "bam" - ooops up side your head!!!!!!!!!!
I just did spinning hook kicks for the first time about a month ago and it realy is my favourite now, it was the first kick that really needs a lot of work to do correctly, so im practicing it during class and 3 times a week for half an hour at home, and when you finaly reach the point where they look just as nice as the ones our green belts etc do its a realy cool feeling!
have you guys got any tips on jumping kicks? How do you jump higher? how do you make your kicks stronger?
I have to say i prefer combos with continous spinning. Thats how i can maintain my balance and increase my speed during a sparring match. I just through my power into the opponent and into the next rotation.
I'm with you Leo, side kick, specifically lead leg is my favorite because I can snap it up pretty fast and score either to belt level or head. Lately though I've been working on front snap kick in sparring, which I'm having a lot of fun with. Works great as a cut-kick, or to slide in for a quick point. Some tournament officials won't score it though, even though they should.
Err well I'd have to say diwt chagi (back kick), simple and effective, incredibley powerful if timed and executed correctly. Easy to learn I think aswell. Also good for trunk and head shots. Jumping variations look cool aswell.
dwit chagi is a really good kick but i wouldn't say that it is that easy to learn. what i often see is that people don't do the preparation properly, do not lift the leg enough and then you get a kick that is executed in a rotation from the floor upwards. or when people do it in a jump then often there is no force behind it.
Yeah, jumping with power in the kick is hard to achieve. Something to do with physics and force isn't it?
momdollyo chagi (backwards spinning kick) in actual situations, gawi chagi (jumped scissors kick) for demonstrations...
