When I hear TMA guys talk about their no rules contests I usually find that A) they are exaggerating or fibbing B) and/or it looks like this https://youtu.be/Sgcjd38DMCQ
I once had a no rules match with a hung gar kung fu fighter, I won via points from the half guard sweep! #honestimnotlyingokimlying
No rules often means "No acknowledged rules" but if you pull out a crowbar they'll complain that you're cheating.
Sounds more fraught with peril than a Neverland sleepover... Which interestingly is where I imagine these no rules martial arts duels to have transpired.
I'm confused - that seems to have been uploaded because that WC school thought it was good? Glad to have finally seen one of those infamous roof-top WC duels. It sucked even harder than I was expecting. On a tangenital, but related, note; I came across this the other day, where this guy talks about the British being unimpressed by the hand-to-hand skills of the Chinese in the Boxer Rebellion (from 6:10): [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNY3LMVTZkg"]Q&A Part 1 - What real historical fights looked like & British 19thC accounts of kung fu - YouTube[/ame]
98-0 in reality combat fighting..... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAyWrBMXcRI"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAyWrBMXcRI[/ame]
I'm reminded of a quote by Tolstoy- All happy families resemble each other - each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. There is only one fight between TMA and BJJ.
Came across this, which seems relevant. I never realised that MMA was specifically designed to stop the 'Chunners winning! And I had no idea they had to a "no sexual contact" rule in force either... please tell me that had to be put in because of an unfortunate incident! Anyway, if this guy didn't spend so long thinking of excuses why the 'Chun doesn't dominate the ring, like so: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmUBQvy9kno"]Wing Chun vs MMA: Why Not? - YouTube[/ame] Then maybe he'd have better sparring "highlights" to show than these: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Rpu7in9LE"]Wing Chun Sparring Highlights - YouTube[/ame]
Now while for the most part we are in agreement I have to make sort of a point here. You say TMA v BJJ but these days it's not quite so simple. Arts have their day and things change. The original UFC was judo v anyone/anything else to run the Tokyo police training. Later we have BJJ emerge from judo and dominate things. Fast forward a few years and you see that what works in a BJJ comp isn't quite what is being used anymore in MMA. The dominance is shifting. Seems to have shifted a number of times over the years and BJJ, deservedly so , has often worn the crown for skills and practicality. Just it's really an over simplification to say BJJ v TMA. Wrestling/Boxing/Thai Boxing/San Shou/Judo are all making their mark. BJJ certainly is in the mix (as is CACC/Sambo etc) but really no longer the clear cut dominator. Am I saying BJJ is a push over? NO way! But, playing devil's advocate, does BJJ now sit partly in the mix of TMA since without combining/evolving past the traditions of (TMA) BJJ there isn't a dominance in the UFC by top BJJ players anymore? Just putting this out because I'm not quite sure the BJJ v them comment is quite accurate anymore. Just sayin' :' D LFD
