So I was looking around youtube and found this video. This is Edmond fighting with Ronda in his corner. He does win the fight but his opponent looked like he was not conditioned and was very intimidated. The funny thing is though that this guy was able to hit Edmond pretty much whenever he wanted. Watching Edmond fight kind of puts it together for me because since I have been spending almost 5 days a week in a boxing gym with my kids lately I just could not wrap my head around what sort of mistakes a coach could make to create this huge defensive deficit. Well, it looks like his fighting style is highly dependent on his chin, and his own power. Problem is, if you don't have a chin, or when someone finally hits you hard enough that your chin doesn't matter then you are going down. This was the missing piece of the puzzle. Joe Frazier made the same mistake coaching Marvis - rather than coach him to be a boxer he trained him to copy....and it didn't work
What's worse about it though is that at least Frazier had a real style that made technical sense. Edmond's tendency to just let people hit him in the face would get him knocked out against real opposition. Same as it does for his students.
