Whilst the sentiment in this is funny, you should keep an eye on your potassium levels because high intake can cause problems. I think most problems seem to come at a 500% RDA level, but obviously this is an average and individual physiology can vary.
From what I understand (and though I've read a little bit on it, I by no means claim expert status), the fructose becomes a problem when fat levels are high. Mine are typically only 10% of my diet or less. Probably part of the reason I feel sluggish if I eat a lot of fat. paz, dormindo
Thanks, Frodo. Everything I've seen on the matter, though suggests both that it's a rare occurence and that it is associated with the potassium in supplement form. I do want to get blood tests and the like done in the new year, though, for my own knowledge. paz, dormindo
1,000th post!! Yay, me! Food Morning Banana smoothie Afternoon Salad containing cabbage, sweet pepper, mushrooms, cashews and cilantro Evening 16 Medjool dates Banana smoothie 30oz Orange juice Calories: 4,819 paz, dormindo
Oh, just checked, Frodo, and my K is at 386% for today (even after 36 bananas). Will keep an eye on this. Thanks again. paz, dormindo
Not to worry! I just remember a cell biologist friend of mine being a bit paranoid about K intake! Congratulations on the 1,000th post! Don't you get bored with what you eat? It seems fairly repetitive to me - this is not a criticism, just a genuine question!
Even if it were a criticism, I couldn't get offended by it, as I think there'd be some merit. Actually, if it weren't for grad school, I probably would be bored, but--as fate would have it--school's busy schedule makes me look at the routine as a godsend, wherein I don't have to spend a lot of time dwelling on food. Of course, if I weren't in school, I'm sure my diet would be more varied at the moment. All that said.... I can't wait for oranges and grapefruit to come into season at the end of this month (in addition to being vegan, I try to eat seasonally and locally as much as I can. Yes, I know the bananas are far from local:dunno. You'll see a change then. Further, I need to be getting more greens into my life. Probably won't happen this week, though, so much to do. This piece of paper better be worth it! paz, dormindo
Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. 'Rest' day. I did teach class today (two kid's classes and one adult class), so I was doing plenty of capoeira today. Soaked my tshirt, that's for sure. paz, dormindo
Today's food log. Today was definitely a boring day. Morning Banana smoothie Afternoon Orange juice Evening Banana smoothie Calorie count: 4,391 Between capoeira class, putting lights on my bike and grading exams, I just didn't feel up to doing anything fancy with food. I did, however, make sure to get plenty of calories in. I think I'm going to keep my count at the 4,000 mark for a while, as I'm feeling more energetic here and I'm hoping to put on a little more muscle through training. I'm also hoping to keep making gains in my running training in prep for a half marathon. paz, dormindo
