I was thinking of doing judo with a little BJJ. Or BJJ with a little judo. Would you recommend learning some BJJ groundwork for judo?
BJJ literally has it's roots from Judo Newaza. Like Kosen Judo it's just focused entirely on the ground game. The reason you end up finding yourself in a BJJ school to help your newaza is because Judokas due to the sport rules have been neglecting newaza for decades.
For a well rounded judo game, bjj helps judo. However under IJF rules (Olympic judo) which your organisation may use at comps, then bjj is useful but can develop bad habits

Interesting read. The question I need to answer myself is do I want to focus on Judo and add a little BJJ or do I want to focus on BJJ and add a little Judo. I feel awkward attending classes if I'm not intending to return the following week. For instance I went to look at a Judo club and made it clear that I was just looking to see what it was about and the Sensei said he would look out an old gi jacket for next week for me to wear. Really nice welcoming gesture but I felt a bit awkward saying I would think about it.
Just do a class or two of each and do the one you enjoy most. The most important thing is to train regularly, youve been talking about this for months now, try them out and just choose. I train both but am consistant with BJJ, but will often miss judo when im tired or busy as the injury risk is higher when your tired. in general judo is much cheaper PAYG too, bjj tends to be a monthly charge with many more classes a week to choose from.
Ronda is an exception because her mother was an exception. Her mother hurt her knee and therefore HAD to change her game to focus on Newaza. She is if anything the exception that proves the rule.
