Do people percieve you as pretentious because of MA?

Sometimes my training gets me into such a highly coordinated, aligned, gracefully moving physical condition that I feel as if people see me as pretentious. Its the overall aura and demeanour I find good training brings.

Does anyone ever get these feelings?

MA training really can be a double edged sword for me, if I do an hour of tai chi for example, and then go into a crowded public place, the sensitivity can be overwhelming.

If you wear your tai chi outfit into public and go around with a cheeseing grin like you dont have a worry in he world and talking like the David Karidean from Kung fu then yes people will think your a pretentious person, same can be sad if you walk around doing Karate moves in the air and telling war stories about the guys ass you kicked in the your sophmore year.

Thanks for the replies all, I guess its down to my training getting me into such a self conscious state of being, that I become super alert to everything around me. I cant help it and trust me I dont want to feel this way. 10 years of MA training has bought me a host of benefits, but has alienated me somewhat.

Randi, my shoulders fine, what has that question to do with the subject?

If your training is making you feel alienated you are doing/being taught something wrongly. Or you are misunderstanding something.

It sounds like you are feeling "superior". This is dangerous.

    IMHO

No you have alienated yourself and now imagine that you can fart higher than your own bum

    You can't

Perhaps you need to concentrate on "rooting" more...try reality for a start

Sometimes I'm semi-consciously doing abbreviated little shadow-boxing hand movements as I think about moves on the way back from wrestling and people give me that sidelong glance that says "I cannot figure out if that sweaty fellow is just drunk or having some kind of schizoid episode".

    Is that similar?
