I still disagree, but I see us just going in circles on this one.

So women don't buy porn or watch porn? I'm thinking you've lived a very sheltered life and you don't really have a clue what you're talking about. The female audience is a particular growth area for the porn industry.

Edit: Most amateur porn is actually done by professionals or people new to the industry. It's not like an amateur painter or a train spotter.

And where does gay porn fit on this scale? Or furries? Shoe fetish? Femdom? Scatological?

I think too many are being exceptionally myopic in the definition - and slightly patronizing towards "poor women" being exploited.

Comparatively to the numbers of men? I don't know if there are stats on it, tell me if you did!
    I'm guessing not as many.

Chill your jets man! We don't know each enough to start judgin each others lives over the Internet. This is just a debate out of boredom or interest.

Tbh I agree with southpaw's point that its just acting but I'm playing devils advocate :p
It's like the discussion between the difference between a massage and prostitution

I tend to find very amateur materials... Home made even...

How this all relates to MMA - it doesn't. MMA fighters aren't like pornstars

I dont think women in (mainstream, western) porn are (mostly) being exploited, I do think the increasing hardcore nature and widespread availability of porn is changing culteral norms and that initself is a good point for discusson -

But the magazines are invariably edited and staffed by women, read by women, can they not make up their own minds? As for the cosmetics companies well surely only men can have the chemistry and business degrees needed for such an undertaking, you will be telling me women can drive next.

I used to work in BDSM & Femdom porn. Mostly photographic modelling but occasionally "acting" in video, the studios I worked in were all owned by women.

again playing devils advocate. (although i believe in communist ideology so...)

if i'm not mistaken most female video stars have degrees from some of the best colleges/unis in their country.
many of those i follow have degrees in business or economics
so clearly they realise that the industry is not as damaging as we're told.

That depends on why you follow them, - selection bias.

Assuming that were true, it would only be (like Stringer Bell in The Wire) to be more in control of the business they are in, since a lot of corporate and media avenues will be closed. Just look at possibly the most famous star Jenna Jameson, highly successful, but not in anything other than porn, for all that time in front and maybe more recently behind the cameras, all that fame and relative closeness to Hollywood. Nada.

I dunno who is the most famous fighter in the UFC, yes I know shock horror, but some of them could be doing other TV work, major sports label sponsorships. Theres nothing to stop anyone with talent making the jump to MA movies and possibly more mainstream Action films.

I'm so happy I'm not into that and now don't have to worry if I've ever used something featuring you as a "visual aid" :p

Going purely by PPV buys, its GSP and he's just done filming/ is finishing filming a role in a film. And it will be terrible :hat:

Its a good point, but I don't know if its strictly true. There's people like Katie Price who are enver going to get past their glamour days, but that seems to be more to do with how she conducts herself since she left than anything. I have no idea if that's true by the way, I avoid celebrity news as much as I can.

But there is an ex hardcore star who's started getting roles in Disney shows. She not only made the switch, but she made it to a predominantly kids targetted one.

I think the 'glamour' side is a different kettle of fish. Linda Lusardi kinda managed a transition from page 3 to err, something else, quite a while ago. Voice over is an interesting option, though the day Ron Jeremy is doing the Shipping Forecast on Radio 4, I'll be taking up the Presidency of the United Nations ;)

And ultimately, it's the women who pay so much attention and slavishly follow the fads that give those mags so much power.

Because heaven forbid you don't go along with fashion rules. Even my wife, who is very down to earth when it comes to this, is affected. I know this because occasionally, she vetos some of my clothing choices because she disagrees, and she knows she will be judged by other women over my choices (because we work at the same company).

If women just made up their own mind instead of slavishly following the group think, the fashion world would not be filled with anorexic skeletons.

Point taken. I don't know enough porn stars to use other examples though.

Heh, if you meant voice overs 'cos of the Disney thing, the girl's doing live action acting not VO.

The vast majority of female porn characters are beautiful, bisexual, sexually indiscriminate creatures who never say no to any man, who are happy to collaborate with another woman for the sake of pleasing a man, who do not get jealous when their male sexual partners have sex with others, and who derive actual sexual pleasure from subservient acts which in reality are all the man's pleasure and not the woman's.

In short, female porn characters are designed to serve the sexual desires of men. I think it's pretty obvious why some women find this objectionable, and I also think it's pretty clear that porn generally does not treat male characters the same way. And the fact that people on here are still denying this is frankly a little disturbing.
