I posted this at Budoseek, but it seems to be fairly inactive over there, so I'll try posting it here...

I keep hearing people mention the different kwans of Hapkido. I understand that means a certain style of Hapkido, but I have no idea which kwan I study.

I have been studying Hapkido since January of this year, and I've never heard my instructor mention this.

I attend a traditional Hapkido dojang that is affiliated with Master West's United States Korean Martial Arts Federation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Master West is a good guy and a nasty Hapkido practitioner.

I would ask your instructor who his teacher was and continuing back to see how far he can trace is lineage. This will help to decipher what style of Hapkido you practice. If you want to post the list of teachers we can try to help you out or you can e-mail me privately and see what we can come up with.

    Take care :)

There may be some info on Kwans and some of their origins in the writeup I did on Hapkido earlier this year as well. I don't recall offhand.
