..Is an upcoming movie based on the life (..and legendary tales) of Besouro Manganga. The trailer appeared on YouTube, so I thought that I'd post it here for you all to check out. Feel free to chime in about your thoughts/opinions.

    Paz...

I'm for the exploration of the historical/legendary figures of capoeira in film, I'm just not anxious to see wire fu treatment of capoeira. I think the film will be interesting enough to watch (and I'm sure I'll watch it), but I'd rather a different approach to the mysticism. You know, something not so open and obvious but held a little closer to the vest--the way magicians are with their secrets. The cinematography looks nice, but I don't want the Afro Brazilian version of Heroes.

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, I love to see grittiness in my fight scenes (Bourne Ultimatum scene with the Morrocan one of my favorites). As for capoeira, I love the flow of the scene in Ocean's 12, but perhaps what Besouro could have used was the grittiness of Madame Sata:

    Agreed!

Great clips posted from Madame Sata as well. It's one of the few movies that I still need to add to my collection.

I agree. Capoeira is exciting enough to watch anyway. They don't need to do the wire work stuff. I think by doing that, it takes away any realism from the story and moves into the realms of fantasy.

good stuff, but i agree we don't need to look to china for help, we should at least come up wit our own way of cinema fighting.

the wires are definitely off putting. I'll assume that was an early video... but if it's more recent, then I'm scared. The wires are clearly noticeable and distracting to the eye. I agree that you don't need wires, but if they're taking the mysticism route, then it makes sense.

The wires are visible, but it's because that wasn't a production edit.
