A local instructor teaches Jujutsu & Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. The website for more information: http://mars-nottingham.com/martial_art_school_nottingham_-_ninjutsu.html

Now, the website says this style was founded on the following "schools":

Gikan Ryu Gyokko Ryu Koto Ryu
Kukishinden Ryu Togakure Ryu Kumogakure Ryu
Gyokushin Ryu Takagi Yoshin Ryu Shinden Fudo Ryu

Now, I'm not asking whether this school sounds good, on the contrary I quite like the Jujutsu lessons and the Ninjutsu of what I have experienced. The Ninjutsu does seem to have a few more of the "I'm a secret ninja assassin" students rather than the Jujutsu. It does however contain a little more weapons training which is a bit more fun for me.

My query is whether you could further explain to me what all these schools are and are about? The lessons are in a nice relaxed atmosphere so a few more lessons in both will let me decide which I'll take further but I am curious as to what the school system is about but as I say any more info on what thats all about would be appreciate d:D

The nine schools you mentioned are indeed the nine schools that make up the organisation called Bujinkan, run by Sôke ("grandmaster" or headmaster rather) Hatsumi Masaaki in Japan.

These nine schools are all linked to the historical people we today refer to as ninja, and a modern way of calling all of their practices together is "ninjutsu" (although the term has been, and still is, used for certain narrower aspects too).

Together with the Genbukan and Jinenkan, Bujinkan is the only legitimate (at least mainstream) ninjutsu organisation/school that exists.

Read around on this forum, experience it for yourself, and remember that because of the way things are run in this organisation, each dojo can be different from another.

Thanks a lot for that, was very helpful. The system taught at the class nearer to me seems quite a relaxed and practical one. I have seen another class in action within my area which had put me off the art somewhat but this method taught seems to be a lot making the parts of the art and showing how they can be used effectively.
