In honour of 'Enry's passing, some discussion about evasion, and Aikido vs 1-2s, and to wish David Hay all the very best for his upcoming Title fight with Klitschko; a small tribute to some of the boxing greats.

1st up Ken Buchanan vs Roberto Duran in one of the sport's most controversial decisions. Mr evasion vs all-out bruiser.

Ken had good reason to get out of the road from Duran's bruising punches.
Ken was also known for his 'trombone' punching style which you can see some of here.

    There are many others.

A couple of my favorite boxers of all time (very different fighters too :p )

Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns. A thunderous right with crazy travel (look how wide his back is and how long his arms are!) with a speedy left as well.

Lance Lewis beat Ken Buchanan as a teenager - I would love to see this fight as I shot a Boxing training program with Lance recently.

See my boxing for the street link below to find out more about Lance.

Unfortunately you haven't put the link up Lee. Given Buchanan's age, if they were teenagers at the time, its doubtfull if the footage exists, but you never know. BBC and STV archives might be a good place to go or contact Buchanan himself.

    here you go http://www.martialartstraining.tv/boxing-for-the-street-boxing/

Lance was a teenager and regarded as the best prospect until an eye problem curtailed his career - he fought 12 times under a different name because of this...Interesting stuff but man when this guy hits the pads the sounds is awesome!

just want to bump this thread... will post more when I get to it... but for heavy hands... almost no one can match Julian Jackson. Insane leverage and superb mechanics... and the something more that is inexplicable... damn.

Always preferred the G-Man over Jackson, (Benn fight was as much about his own chin as to the eventual tragic outcome) same power, but better in other areas IMO.

That said Jackson owns what has to be the most devastating KO on record. Having had his ass handed to him for 3 rounds he pulled this off....

I remember Jackson knockout against Herol Graham - I believe last round and bomber was well ahead on points!

4th round - Bomber had given him a masterclass in boxing and Jacksons' corner were about to throw in the towel because he had been given such a pasting...we all know what happened next!

    hi,
How about the Rock-Rocky Marciano , what a legend ?Hard as nails inside the ring , very quiet outside, a true gentleman.Sonny Liston,Joe Louis, Jack Johnston , Jersey Joe Walcott, Archie Moore-all great fighters.
Another great fighter Sugar Ray Robinson, fluid and packed a punch. Carmen Basilio was also a great fighter. So many good guys in the past , not like the dummies fighting nowadays.David Haye , Klitchko would not be hired as sparring partners to the above.
    Cheers, Joe.

One of my all time favorite for how clever his boxing is. His position and ability to move and punch. Very, very slick. For those who truly study boxing you can spend hours watching his footage to pick out details.
