Resistance is the name of the Game

Your body knows only resistance, no matter how you get it, Weights or your Bodyweight! Period!

just a word of reference or Example :

I think you should follow this man Called HANNIBAL FOR KING to be very precise.
Watch this video get your motivation and google him uphttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0yauyyv534
He has been training only on Bodyweight for the past 18 years.

There comes a point with bodyweight where you need to add weight to the exercises. Does that mean a pull up + 45lbs is a bodyweight exercise or a weight training exercise?

The answer is...who the hell cares; you're a badass!

I thought 'both' would be a no brainer for obvious reasons.

Depends on the exercise. Lat pull-downs for instance aren't as effective at building strength as pull-ups. Push-ups aren't as effective at building strength as bench press. Now push-ups will build muscular endurance and proprioception but will not build raw strength as well.

    Simply:
If you want power, keep adding resistance and do your basic compound lifts: squats bench press, deadlift, pull-ups/chin-ups, shoulder press, clean and jerk,
If you want endurance, keep adding reps (still should be compound: push-ups, squats, deadlift etc.)
    For martial arts, train both.

They both have there advantages and weakness.Bodyweight seem more internal fars as strength concern.Your body is natural with bodyweight training.
As the warriors of old used these method to strengthen and prepare for fight.
Weightlifting is good! If you need to pick up something, weightlifting prepare for it.I would add both in my training. But I like doing unconventional training(lifting objects&stuff)
