C'mon Guys! Even wing chun punches with a straight wrist. honestly though, that second video was shameful. especially the posters of people
you have a lot to learn my young padwan watch how fedor punches [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjGWhUkEb4g"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjGWhUkEb4g[/ame]
Now THIS is a bareknuckle fighter [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DraD1LFGkr8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DraD1LFGkr8[/ame]
Fedor performs flexion with a fist to ensure his knuckles line up with his wrist to form a straight chamber and therefore ensure the safety of his wrists. In the second video you performed Ulnar Deviation with a fist (seen at the beginning of the video). Which can lead to you breaking your wrist and metacarpal of the smaller fingers. Please ensure for your own safety you correct your technique. Its a good thing you did post here otherwise no one would have pointed that out to you and you could end up in hospital not being able to train a while. Recording yourself is great because you can analyse performance and correct postural problems you don't notice when performing. Though i do apologise for my previous cockiness, it was uncalled for but don't post if you don't want some criticise. For further information on why punching in this manner is bad, read the following: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/828746-overview#a0104
Just thought I'd get my thoughts in. I've been lucky enought to train with Karl and can attest to just how hard he strikes. Coming from a more orthodox striking backgroung I'll admit, and indeed mentioned it to Karl at the time, how I unorthodox his punching style is. But it certainly hurts! Check out Karl's youtube channel/other posts you'll see he's all about the pre-emptive strikes and power. There's some good stuff on there.
Thanks evojm72, hope your trainings going well! straight wrists fine for tape and gloves, but it still ruduces your power greatly and with a straight wrist people tend to hit with the weaker side of the middle knuckle, which is very common in boxers, its also more natural to hit with the weaker side, thats not so with bare knuckle,I had nothing but problems with straight wrists bare knuckle,Dennis Jones showed me the wrist position,I started with 14oz gloves double wraps and worked my way down, the heavy bag and an 80kg maize sand bag, taught me evreything I needed to know about my wrist, the wrist is the most important part of the strike,it also the same way my teacher used on the door for 26 years with no problems, you would understand this if you trained bare knuckle It seems not many people on here understand the concept of focused punching? seeing as no ones talked about it,to be honest I thought it was common knowledge.clearly its not.
Could you explain it [focus punching] please? I'm not sure why the legs aren't used as a power base to drive the punch unless this somehow reduces the impact you can take before breaking your wrist? And a heavily crooked arm will dissipate energy in the elbow (ouch!) rather than the shoulder & torso as with straight arm contact. What makes the bent arm superior to the straight? I just don't see the mechanics
Punch hard = good. High hands, body movement, evasion and somme thought to defending yourself = better.
I have trained with Karl in the past and he does hit hard.To be honest the cliips don't really do him justice.I think Target Focused Punching is a recent development as its a term I have never heard Dennis Jones use.TFP sounds like some kind of disinfectant lol.
focused punching its just a term, like impact just training part of the strike to improve the whole,Ive always trained with hard bare knuckle punchers, their focused punching was and still is signifantly more than any other hand striking method ive seen.the focused part of the strike can be added to any style to maximise effect/power and is in many arts, but its to the extent you train that one thing, that can make a huge difference in the power IMHO Heres Dennis Explaining the styles he uses, and thats what im training to perfect in them clips [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnpm6Xr3ZT8"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnpm6Xr3ZT8[/ame] more training for that [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuoM971MMuU"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuoM971MMuU[/ame] the arm is bent and thrown on a curve, because hooks and overhands/unpercuts are the most powerful punches, but like I said before the sand bag dictates my wrist postion and I move my body to suit that...if I didnt Id break theres a reason old school boxers used to train in small bag gloves and sand bags, and some still do.
