I don't see how practicing various ways of beating someone who's already laying face-down on the ground makes any kind of sense. Maybe that's just me being a softie aikido guy, but I fail to see any kind of self-defense application for that.

    Pffft, This video is GREEEEAAAAT!

It clearly shows how bad defense can work on a compliant takedown artist who lunges at your legs from 6 feet away with no set up! Everybody needs those skills!:hat:

The best part about that speedy muay thai kicker is how the second he is done he marches over to the cameraman like a boss demanding he shut off the camera. That guy does not mess around.

Yes. I could explain my bicep routines but that requires both high speed Internet access and a more lenient ToS.

Oh I doubt it too. As I said, the technique is a separate issue. I'm just thinking about the continuous flow of techniques.

When did I say anything about the techniques he executes on a prone opponent? Hapuka was referring specifically (I thought) the sheer number of techniques being thrown.

I'm not appalled by the idea of taking away an opponent's ability to pop straight back up again after you've gone to the trouble of knocking him over. But I agree that there's a wide range of possibilities between that and repeated "marriages of gravity" to the back of the skull, as shown in the video.

Correct. Ever heard of the term 'too many cooks in the kitchen'? here we have too many techniques in the arsenal. Keep it simple stupid (KISS) works best, especially for those learning.

I guess I misunderstood Hapuka, and therefore your response to him.

    Her.

No worries. Just don't want to be viewed as a head-stomping maniac. You're much more likely to catch me watching Downton Abbey than kicking a downed opponent.

This video has succeeded in putting me off slurpees thats for sure (not like I drink them anyway, we have slushies where I come from, but still...)

In this video its clear who the more potentially talented boxer is (and its not the guy who won by default).

Its always sad to see the bully win, but I hope the kid with red gloves in the future considers doing Boxing. Look at how he threw the cross and pivoted out of the way of the jab (he does it twice), no its not the most amazing technique ever, but it showed that he quickly thought of moving to the side and countering rather than backing up and turning his back to his opponent (like what beginners naturally tend to do) and even he did get backed up, he countered with a hook and moved to the side (yes he did turn his back there, not wise, but he did get out the way of his opponents range).

This kid might be a natural. Not the best fight ever, well, it was pretty bad, but for a first time puncher, he clearly has something.

This guy (Calasanz), I swear watches way too many JCVD movies.

Not only that, the other guy's blocking technique is terrible. He's leaning back way too much, and considering the kick (or stick) he's blocking is being thrown at slightly above knee height, there is no reason to bring the blocking leg up that high. Nice jazz hands, not that they would do much against an on coming punch (even more so with gloves like that), except prehaps bend your fingers back (ouch). As for the kick, he needs to rotate his hips over more by stepping his support leg out to the side, it will contribute more power and won't screw up his balance as much (kicking on a straight line can have that affect). Though the main problem here with the kick is he doesn't have the required flexibility to throw it properly.

Here is probably where Calasanz got the idea of beating people with sticks from:

One of the worst low kicking techniques I have seen from anyone claiming to have over 20 years of martial arts experience in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Goju Ryu Karate and American Kick Boxing.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A19ZTIjUGHA&list=UUit0uMNkpVULMuRsGulmGBg&index=10&feature=plcp"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A19ZTIjUGHA&list=UUit0uMNkpVULMuRsGulmGBg&index=10&feature=plcp[/ame]

For those wondering what I consider to be a low kick, this is what I consider to be a low kick (It might look a silly the way how he flays his arms around like that, but when he does it against his opponent you'll soon realize why he does that): Watch this, then compare it to the above video. Real Kick vs Wheel Kick.

So much wrong here. We see uke intentionally missing nage with the knife (see 0:20 for the clearest example). The one time uke is not so nice (0:59), nage gets hit in the face. At 1:08 we see nage dodge a knife thrust by backing away, then move back in to kick uke in the face, even though uke is still armed and still has the knife out in front of her; at 1:17 we see nage strike uke in the face, even though there is still a knife in between her and uke. In both cases, uke is nice enough not to use the knife to defend herself. Never once does nage disarm uke.

(Yes, I'm aware I'm using Japanese terms for a Korean martial art. Please pardon my ignorance of the Korean equivalent of the terms.)
