OK folks, for those that have too much time on their hands and a knowledge of obscure actors, try this. The Oracle of Bacon at Virginia It's an online database of actors that shows you how many steps it takes to link any actor or actress via other actors to the actor Kevin Bacon through films they have both appeared in. An example with a Bacon number of 3 is given below: The Oracle says: beth orton has a Bacon number of 3. Beth Orton was in Southlander (2001) with Beck (I) Beck (I) was in Soul of a Man, The (2003) with Laurence Fishburne Laurence Fishburne was in Mystic River (2003) with Kevin Bacon. You will be suprised how low the numbers are for say fairly obscure British actors so it's very hard to get a Bacon number over 5 and the highest obtained so far is 8. I'm betting that people who are not native English speakers will do well if they use actors from films made in their native lands. I guess the point of it is to test out an algorithm and show everyone how well connected we all are  Have fun! W
lol KIM JIN PAL!? The Oracle says: Jin-pal Kim has a Bacon number of 4. Jin-pal Kim was in Heukpyogaek (1974) with Fang Yeh Fang Yeh was in Chinese Hercules (1973) with Biao Yuen Biao Yuen was in Game of Death (1978) with Colleen Camp Colleen Camp was in Trapped (2002) with Kevin Bacon
Some movies Animal House ("Thank you sir, may I have another?") Hollow Man (nevermind, nobody saw that) A Few Good Men (the other lawyer) The Air Up There (you haven't seen this either, but he's the white guy) Apollo 13 (the weasly astronaut) Oh what the heck - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000102/
I think Kevin Bacon was chosen precisely because most people said this. He's been around Holloywood for a while (brat pack in the 80's) and has appeared in films with most star actors plus a lot of obscure ones as well. Think of the most obscure film actor you can and type it in W
Harry Enfield was the worst celeb driver on one saeries of Top Gear Harry Enfield was in Churchill: The Hollywood Years (2004) with Neve Campbell Neve Campbell was in Wild Things (1998) with Kevin Bacon His Bacon number is 3 He is also not really an actor
He's been in so many ensemble movies lately that the game is just too easy now. For a real challenge, try six degrees of Steve Buscemi (I know it doesn't rhyme, but it's tons of fun and it still works)
The post was about using the Oracle of Bacon at Virginia. It's an online database that tries to find the shortest link between KB and any other actor. All you have to do is type in the name and the database does the rest. Bet you'll find it hard to get a link above 4. W
That kinda takes the fun out of it, as me and my friends prefer to do it in our heads rather than let a computer do it. Although it would help some seriously tough ones.
Mushroom, have you actually visited the site and played this thing yet? Sigh, I don't think I explained meself very well in the original post. The OoB@V exists to test a shortest link algorithm and you have to find an actors name that forces it to take a longer route through the database. It will do a more thorough job than people can because it knows all the actors in a given film which will reduce the chances of a large Bacon Number coming up. Therefore the fun is finding an obscure actor who can force the algorithm to return a Bacon Number that is greater than 3 or 4. It's not easy and the largest I've managed so far is a 4. Think of it as man (or woman) against the machine, a film buffs Deep Blue if you will GET PLAYING!!!! W
Yeh I have, first thing I did was type in my Brother's name as he was a Stuntman in Die another Day. Got 2 I also only can get 4 so far and that was with Dimple Kapadia, an Indian Actor in Bollywood....scary how the Bacon can get there..
Some of these connections are pretty weak... Connecting Amitabh Bachchan to Richard Gere from a documentary? Connecting a Korean actor to Snoop Dog because he's in a movie that shows a music video? Shady stuff...
well since documentaries count.... Morgan "Supersize Me" Spurlock. = infinity links Although Michael Moore got 2 links
