Sometimes I do a quick scan with the Linux version of AVG. My 3D app does run in Wine after all.

I use ClamAV, that's free for windows as well I believe.
Try the latest issue of "micro mart" if you can find it, they did a feature this week.

A big thank you to everyone for responding.:D

After sorting out an issue with Vista, I have successfully installed AVG 8 so I am a happy bunny again.

I would recommend Commodo as a firewall and Avast as an antivirus. Both are solid.

If you have a router use the firewall on that hardware firewall > software firewall

Wolfie - where in repositories is AVG ?

It's not. You need to go to the AVG web site and download the free .deb package. Once you have it just double click and it should install automatically.

I had a problem with AVG last time I ran it. My computer got infected with some virus that merged itself with some important windows files and AVG wasnt able to clean the files, it just deleted them. AVG deleting winlogon.exe rendered the computer useless and I had to reformat. Im wary of using it sinse then. When the cure is more harmful than the ailment somethings definatly not right..

Another interesting thing about AVG is some of the newer functionality thats causing some havok, it checks URL'z to see if they contain any malicious code and has been raising hell with some sites stats/logs. There is an article about this phenomena at theregister.co.uk - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/13/avg_scanner_skews_web_traffic_numbers
