Do any of you ahve any tricks or tips or sources onhow to learn grappling at home. I have found out i dont have any places in my town which do it nor do i have anyone to practice it on. (which i wont break) So, are there are sweeps or clinch moves i should know or anythign like that since i include that in the grapplign definition. The only idea i have is getting one of those grapple dummies and practicing on that. any advice would be nice and any need to know moves/principles would be nice to along with a good art to look at for it. (going with Juijuistui, Sambo or Krav Maga)
You cannot learn anything meaningful about grappling without, at the very least, training partners, let alone competent instruction. Whereabouts are you? Perhaps the hive-mind can recommend a place to train.
It's a dynamic activity in which you react to another's physical movements and you can't train it solo. What you can do is supplemental training. So strength, conditioning, flexibility, movement drills etc That really is all without a partner. And as has been said, competent instruction is highly advisable.
^^ That. But that said, you could read books (there are many) and/or watch instructional videos (the Gracies even have an entire curriculum on video) and/or watch MMA matches. None of this will come close to actual body-to-body training, but it would be far better than making up your own stuff.
There's enough resources to get some form of experience on grappling at home (like aikimac mentioned the Gracie's have a syllabus for it) but you do need a partner. I just don't see a way around that.
East Midlands BJJ Here is a great school in your general area, even if you can only attend once a month, its far far better then wasting time trying to train yourself.
You can always do bridging and shrimping on your own. Work on flexibility. Do your bear walks every day. Here's some stuff that will help you: It's not a substitute for proper training, but it will help you prepare your body.
I have looked, but as i lack personal transit it has to be done specfically in my house, i did find a krav maga that does sunday lessons, but for some of the alte things i would probbly have to beat the crap out of some people directly after the lesson since it means goign at 7PM to a city which i do not live in via a bus. I have also looked, most of it would be in said city. I do plan on kind of trying to go to Krav maga once in a while though, no idea the bus schedule for Sundays though. Its a stop gap mesure to actually going somehwre to train. Also, if this forum has taught me anything, you can egt a lot of money making your own thing invalid if it works or not. XP
Not in my town. The closest ones i know about but lack of personal transit makes it difficult to get to anywhere outside of my town. They used to do it in my town, but my town mainly has strikign arts in it, like Boxing, Karate TKD. (boxing is probbly shutting down now anyway. XD)
Get in amazing shape and get flexible. If you intend to train in the near future when your location isn't an issue then it'll enable you to get more out of it faster and help prevent against some injuries.
If personal transit Is the issue, get strong/fit and sort out your transit issue. A bike will do both!
If you are interested in how to train your leg to do "ankle pick", you can - Dig a hole. - Put a Bowling ball in the hole. - Use your foot to scoop that Bowling ball out of that hole 100 times daily.
I would say train on general health/flexibility/strength etc? That would all help your grappling. Otherwise do all the warm up drills at home (that you wouldve done in class) such as shrimps, rolls, butt scootch etc...
Easy to learn at home! Go up and give your wife (or significant other) a nice tight hug, then whisper in her ear that you've been thinking about her sister! I guarantee you will get lots of practice on grappling whilst trying to keep her from smacking you.
