Anyone dealt with ITBS?

After talking with an experienced marathon runner, I finally figured out that ITBS is causing my 'napalm knee' during running. Sometimes it flares up, especially if I run more than 3 or 4 km. Now that I have custom insoles for my running shoes, I can make it (usually) to 10 km without pain. But last week I ran in the woods, and the road went up and down a bit. The down part caused another flareup.

It's not impacting my martial arts practice because during class my knees are perfectly fine. It's only the extreme repetition of running that brings it on. It's just very annoying that I can't run longer distances.

Anyone here experience the same problem, and what worked for you to deal with it (other than not running downhill :))?
