Way to steal my thunder man, I was just about to post this. That kick looks like it's straight out of The Matrix...
You used to be able to use your feet to move on the ground (walking up the wall). They might have changed that though? Someone posted a video of some semi-contact dude doing this only a day or so ago. It's like buses...you wait all year for a video of someone running up a wall and kicking someone in the head and then two come along at once! Great kick though. *applause*
very cool, reminded of raymond daniels kick i saw on youtube.. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZFJqesJ2Ko"]YouTube - Raymond Daniels "Wall Kick"[/ame] but in fact the one u posted is way cooler!
Is that "trick to kill" thread still around here anywhere? Because I think we have a neat exhibit for it.
the original one posted lands and is effective, the one i posted is not? like i say, its 'reminded' me of that clip i saw. anyways... cool.
Well in his defense it is a semi-contact match. He might have been able to knock him out if he was trying. According to the Sherdog article Pettis is a TKD blackbelt. But obviously he is very cross-trained in wrestling, BJJ, etc.
That Gif may be what is needed to revive the thread? Does anyone know about how this guy trains though? Certainly this wouldnt be a staple kick to practise for MMA? I cant imagine he spent 5 Minute rounds of padwork working on his wall run roundhouse. I might look up the old fight record!
I saw the fight footage from another angle, and I think he did not come off the wall. I think he used what we call a Chicken Wheel kick in Kenpo. Will see if I can find the other angle video.
I am going to overrule myself. Found the other video and he clearly did push off. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Je1G58y_NuA"]YouTube - anthony pettis kick[/ame]
Wow! I have to eat humble pie. That kick is in my Hapkido syllabus (you have to do a board break with it for 2nd Dan)and I've always said its just there for athleticism and you would never really expect to use it in an actual confrontation....in this case I don't mind being proven wrong! That's just awesome.
