Were there any other cage designs besides the "Octagon" style cage that the UFC creators thought about? I don't mean more or less sides to the cage,(six sided or 20 sided/20 is exagerrated I know:)!
Any weird rope designs or raised floor? Just curious!;)

Spikes sticking up out of the floor would make it interesting!!!!

YAMMA Pit Fighting, which only actually had one event, used one with a slanted surface leading out about four feet in front of the cage. It sucked. Made takedowns easier.

Actually it was seriously suggested when they were planning the set up for the first UFC to use a moat filled with allagators around the cage!

This books a pretty entertaining account of how it all started and developed, its amazing that MMA has got to where it has today.

Great Movie! That scene had everything. Action, humor, treachery, etc.

I'm a fan of kung fu movies as much as the next guy. But one thing that hollywood has less by cross-pollinating with hong kong action movies is that gritty reality of the action scene.

That famous movie Seven Samurai had one of the best fight scenes. It isn't pretty. People are sliding on their butts through the mud. The fighting is sometimes clumsy and ugly looking. But I thought it was a pretty realistic rendition of a sword melee.

Aaron i know what you mean, the proper chop socky films are much better than hollywood, i have a mini series at home called Lone wolf and cub (or the baby cart series), which was cut down to make the film shogun assasins apparently, they just took bits and pieces from the series and strung them together, the fight scenes are awesome although there is some of the silly fake blood squirting here and there, but it was filmed in the 70's. I also have another series called Hanzo the razor which had some good fights but was also more like a series of violent porno films which i wasn't expecting!!!!
