Pretty cool. I had to look at it on 13824×9792 px to really read it. Interesting to see how things branched out, and makes you wonder why they did.

Like why were the first branch off of the main Unitarians branch Transylvanian Unitarians? I guess they got tired of all the heated anti-Dracula rhetoric coming from the pulpit?

    This is a bit off...
Also - yoga is a religion?

Sikhism springs up randomly instead of growing out of Islam and various tribal beliefs which are now collected under branches of hinduism (Holy books reference both Hajj and Shiva...)

Nice, lots of work went into this, although it leaves out all native religions of the Americas and Africa too.

Tell a yoga person it's all crap, made up and doesn't work. Sit back break out the munchies. It's quite entertaining

EDIT: Follow the dotted line. Sikhism appears to spring from Sufism which is a branch of Islam. It's a big massive complicated diagram that's hard to read.

I'm guessing this is a person practicing Yoga in the west and not a saddhu in india who is a wandering hindu priest or the people in rest of india that practice yoga and associate it with hinduism (yoga is one of the ways that certain legendary priests got their magic powers be appeasing gods with their dedication)...

that fact that its developed into a religion itself is cool though

To be honest, the whole thing should show a lot more blending between religions and a lot of smaller religions that get co-agulated into a mess of larger ones that have different branches.

Perhaps. Personally I can't even begin to ponder the level of research needed to stitch all that together. Going deeper into finer detail? I think you should take on that task. :D

it's impossible but the diagram can be used by stupid people in arguments that their religion is more legitimate than any other or that their were such things as major branches.

Islam was the narrowing of a bunch of different gods worshipped by tribes like the Quresh down to Allah by the Prophet Muhammed. There is even the argument that it was the modified version of Judaism but maybe that wasn't included so the author wouldnt upset certain religious folk.

as philosoraptor mentioned about the mix of people being similar, which is probably true and that is crazy to research but at least people still hold genetics.

looking about my own family who are all indian:
my maternal grandparents come from a very specific branch of Sikhism originating in one town and clan in kenya which is pretty easy to track through our genetic group.
but my paternal grandmother is Muslim but she was born a catholic with a mix of indigenous beliefs, in an area of india invaded by the Portuguese, originally inhabited by the proto-austroloids but in early history colonised by arabs, greeks and northern indians - how does one track that religious trail?

    I didn't spot Dudeism, but I don't think it's absence is a big deal.
