Just for a quick bio: 16, yellow belt, kickboxing for 4-5 months, live in South West London (Wimbledon) There is a gym in the Wimbledon area that hires out to classes, for instance my kickboxing class. I asked my instructor how much it was to rent this gym and he said thirty to fourty pounds an hour. Now it's come to my attention that there are a lot of martial artists from London, particularly kickboxers, and I was thinking of organising some kind of meeting for a spar/training session. It would be a chance to meet eachother and train. The more people that come down, the cheaper it will be - if 10+ can make it and we all chip in it will be £10 ahead for 2 and a half hours, maybe for longer. It's only an idea, but if you lot are up for it I can get it organised. Be honest - if you think it's a bad idea, say right away so it doesn't end in failure. If you say you're going to come, make sure you are - firstly for the cost, secondly because we need XX heads in there to make it worth our while. So, what do you lot think? Fancy training it down to ye fair olde Wimbledon?
Im sure I should know this but how far is Wimbeldon from Central London, is it tubeable? If so Id be interested, though Im no kick boxer. The only problem I might have is the £10- I mean £10 for 2 and a half hours is quite a bit, well it is for me anyway being a lowly student. Still I express my interest and Ill wait and see what the rest of the response is like...
You may want to research the legal side - making sure everyone has a license to cover insurance and things, just in case....
Well no, it would be much more 3rd party than that. No payment whatsoever apart from basic gym costs - bring own kit, bring own equipment. This is merely for fun, and even if/when we spar full protective gear will be worn to prevent an injury. CKava - of coursem, I appreciate the money concern, but like I said - the more people come, the cheaper it will be. I will advertise on kung fu, tae kwon do and thai boards. If a few people from each art come, then bring a friend, we should get around 10-15 people. We could then pool our various skills and knowledge (no doubt we will be at varying levels which helps), train, spar, and all pay equally for the experience. I will have to get the whole thing organised so if you're serious about doing this please private-mail me, I'll give you my phone number and we can arrange dates/times/money/people ect. I will need one more person to actually plan everything with so someone closest would help. Remember I'm in the Wimbledon/Merton area.
