Thought I'd put together this list of suggested training equipment suppliers that can be used for WMA practice. My sources are primarily in the UK, so if colleagues in other countries want to list their own suppliers please do so!

    SWORDS - Practical Hand-and-Half Swords
Basic Un-edged and un-pointed blades can be found at

GAMBESON - Protective quilted jacket that will absorb moderate blows from a practice sword blade or wooden waster. The longer version gives some protection to the top of the legs!

MASK - A 1600N olympic standard fencing mask is recommended for longsword sparring. A 350N mask is only suitable for wooden wasters and singlestick.

THROAT GUARD - As fencing mask bibs are not designed to take a thrust from a longsword a hockey throat-guard will provide additional protection to the throat area.

LACROSSE GLOVES - I have found that Lacrosse gloves allow reasonable manouverability while still offering decent protection to the hands and wrist. Hockey gloves are slightly bulkier while cricket gloves offer no protection on either the right or left thumb depending on which type you buy.

RUGBY HELMET - Providing there is room inside your fencing mask, a padded rugby helmet could offer additional protection for your nugget, and provides some padding to the back of the skull!

GROIN GUARD - For those who need to guard the essentials

LEG GUARDS - If you require shin, knee protection, baseball Leg Guards offer good manouverability and protection

KNEE, ELBOW & FOREARM - Basic elasticated padding
