Just watched another episode of "The Strain" on the telly.

I really need to take a look at the DVDs and the book.

I hate how Kevin Durand has - in the dubbed version! - sometimes an accent and than it's suddenly gone.
That is so stupid and annoying!

Also I'm curious about the books.
I need to look for some good(!) vampire books; also for some zombie and/ or dystopian books (like "The Road", which I haven't read so far either... so might start there ;) )...
Maybe I'll start a thread about book recommendations, if there isn't one already... Need to check that...

Two episodes into ABC's new Marvel series. It's pretty well made and has a good cast. The story is all about back stabbing plots to steal the throne and fighting to reclaim it. The special effects are pretty good except for Crystals powers where they seem a bit lame. Since it's brand new I don't want to spoil anything with specifics but there have been a few major blunders in the way the coup went down and I hate that medusa basically isn't Medusa almost right from the start. Still I'm looking forward to seeing more.

We started watching American Horror season 3, as we've enjoyed of the others.

We pretty much chained watched the first 6 episodes :D

Also watching AHS cult, but not enjoying as much.

I discovered it a couple of months ago and have got really into it. I'd seen stuff online about it foreshadowing bits of the Trump presidency and as soon as season 3 started I could tell why. The fourth wall breaking adds to the show too. Started season four last night but have a feeling it wont last long.

Just finished the first season of West World and it's definitely worth a watch. Some episodes seemed to drag and got a bit repetitive. So many episodes focus on the debauchery and sadism of the guest's preferences that you find yourself saying "Oh great, ANOTHER orgy scene" before losing focus. There's elements of classic Nolan fare that you would find in The Prestige or Memento - lost love, the treachery of memory, and time, identity, etc. - but many of the characters seemed to have inconsistent, shifting motives. Big reveals and betrayals occur, and you find yourself wondering things like "Ok, so if that's how he really felt, why did he do something exactly opposite of it before this?" Elements of the maze, a puzzle at the heart of Westworld, didn't seem consistent even as they were intriguing. Elements of the show are delightful, like the old time-y piano covers of "Paint it Black," or "Blackhole Sun," the winking references to Jurassic Park or Game of Thrones, while others seemed ponderous; monologues about consciousness and human evolution that spell out the themes the show tackles. The series is at its best when its trying to be clever rather than intelligent.

I've started up again on 'The Good Place' starring Ted Danson and the ridiculously awesome Kristen Bell. Without giving away too much, Bell's character dies, and ends up in what is essentially Heaven, except something went wrong and she isn't meant to be there. She's meant to be in 'The Bad Place'.

Cue things going wrong in the afterlife, with Bell's character attempting not to get found out.

I really like it, it's highly watchable, with a likeable set of characters.

Caught the 1st episode this morning, and I have to admit that it was a lot more laugh out loud than I expected it to be. (that may be due to my low brow humour threshold though...) The 2nd episode however I am finding less naturally funny, and more trying to be funny, but still enjoyable none the less.

Mushroom De-powered to come back better than before.

I gave up on that series. I was told to just skip it and go straight to the Hotel.

Season 1 is still the best.

Been catching up with some Ray Donovan season 5. Bit of a slow start and the odd dull episode, but things are getting better toward the mid to latter stages. Susan Sarandon is a nice addition to the cast, and as usual Mickey is stealing the show left right and centre. Spoiler alert: And Bunchy having his cash robbed was classic..

    I just started watching Vikings.
I'm not knowledgeable about HEMA at all, aside from the little I've read about it on here.
Does anyone know how realistic/unrealistic the depicted combat is?

I am totally geeking out at the awesomeness of "Gotham" season 3.

Okay, there are some stupid bad parts. I hate clones. A clone story line is always stupid, and I never like it. And I hate fatal injuries that aren't fatal. Coming back from the dead unharmed from a fatal injury is just stupid.

That said -- the acting of both Penguin and Riddler is Emmy-worthy. Each of them absolutely steals and owns the scene he is in, but half the time they're in a scene together, and the acting level gives me chills. Complete sensory overload from the awesomeness.

Plus, there are several characters who deserve honorable mention -- so it's just a pleasure to watch! OMG!

And then on top of that -- it's the birth of (1) Riddler, (2) Catwoman, (3) Poison Ivy, and (4) Batman! All of them in one season!

The whole show is nominally about the birth of Batman, yes yes yes, and we've had little Bruce Wayne from the beginning, but now, for the first time, little Bruce Wayne (1) takes down the pseudo-Joker by himself in a fist-fight, (2) takes out four street thugs simultaneously in a fist-fight, (3) correctly sees through a professional con-artist's con on his own, (4) gets Alfred's confirmation and encouragement, for the first time, that he's actually training to save Gotham, and (5) gets the idea of becoming a symbol, because symbols are stronger than mere individuals.

Dude!! Hello!! How awesome is all of that at once!!

I gave up on Gotham a while back, but your gleaming review (not to mention enthusiasm for the subject matter) and the fact that it is readily available on Netflix, is begining to make me reconsider...

Ya, there was a big stretch there where it was getting stupid. (cough) Fish Mooney (cough) I was losing interest, too. I'd be interested to hear your take on season 3. I think #17 was the last one I watched - Selina was unconscious and surrounded by alley cats.

I'm going to be really mad if the end of the season goes bad! :p:mad:

Never had an issue with spoilers myself - I tend to view them as giving me something to look forward to! Reckon I'll rejoin detective Gordon at the GCPD tonight, when I regain control of the telly box...
